Ollie gives back to ElderDog Canada Ollie wants to thank ElderDog Canada for finding him his forever home. Ollies' other human surrendered Ollie to ElderDog Can...ada when she was at the end of her cancer journey . Ollie and his human walk everyday. While on their walks they pick up discarded bottles and cans that can be redeemed for deposit . Now Ollie wants to donate the money to ElderDog Canada. Ollie asks other dogs and their humans to also help ElderDog Canada by doing the same thing. In the process it helps to clean up our streets! Some of the recycling depots already have accounts set-up in ElderDog Canadas' name. If they don't you can e-transfer the funds directly to the Kings Pawd at [email protected] Thank you See more

**Please share widely! We are looking for a home in NS, PEI or NB** Meet Buddy! This 18-years-young, neutered Lab-cross recently came into ElderDog Canada Inc c...are when his #senior companion had to move into a long-term residence. He and his beloved Buddy had been together for about 16 years and Buddy had always received the best of care. Buddy is a sweet and gentle soul who has adjusted very well in his foster home. He is house trained, manages stairs well and sleeps through the night on his thick comfy bed. He has lived companionably with a cat and briefly with two dogs, but he has had no exposure to children. Buddy gives gentle kisses and offers his paw but does not jump up. Buddy likely has hearing loss, so needs to be awakened gently so as not to startle him. He has recently accepted both a bath and a nail trim with plenty of treats - with no problems. He's also great in the car and needs only a gentle boost to help him in. Buddy has lovely leash manners and walks surprisingly well for his age, enjoying short and frequent outings with naps in between. He pays attention to wildlife such as squirrels but after a brief tightening of the leash he ignores them. Oddly, there was a period a few months ago when Buddy was in temporary care that he seemed fascinated by rocks and gobbled a few. His foster Mom has not observed this behaviour but he should probably be monitored outside for a while to see if it recurs. Buddy weighs just over 50 lb. The vet recently noted some age-related muscle atrophy, particularly around his hind end, but it doesn’t seem to affect his comfort or mobility. Because he doesn’t appear to have much body fat, a good coat is recommended for cooler weather. This lovely boy has a good appetite for his age and is a prolific pooper (sometimes 6 good movements a day!) For the past two years he has been fed a grain-free diet, prescribed for an itchy belly, and it seems to be working well. He is VERY treat motivated and will sometimes bark if he feels he’s not getting his fair share! He needs toys suited to his strong jaws. The Kong Extreme for power chewers works well, and he is particularly happy when it’s filled with peanut butter. When humans are eating, he can be a bit demanding by barking and pawing an arm for human food. Some treats in the Kong have been shown to provide distraction so he’s certainly capable of learning better table manners. But keep an eye on food left within range. Given the chance, Buddy can be a counter surfer and is surprisingly agile for his age! Other than a request for food or to go out, Buddy is a quiet boy around the home. Apart from exploring open cupboards, he is respectful in the house and does not suffer from separation anxiety. He loves to lie on his bed and enjoy the warmth of the sun. Buddy received a three-year distemper shot in November 2019. Blood work showed all levels to be normal. The vet advised no further vaccinations due to Buddy’s age. Buddy is currently being fostered in Hammonds Plains. His foster Mom says he’s a great dog and it’s been a pleasure having him with them. Due to Buddy's age, we are only looking for homes in NS, PEI and possibly NB. Travel is hard on older ones. **Please help ElderDog Canada Inc find a home for the incredible Gibson. Feel free to share among your contacts** 8 year old Gibson is one of those dogs whose l...ife story should have left him with a healthy dose of skepticism about people. He has been passed around, neglected and ignored. Turns out, Gibson is HRM's sweetest, goofiest, gentlest big lug! Gibson needed some TLC: he was underweight, he had a malignant lump on his neck, hot spots, skin and ear infections and a couple rotten teeth. The surgeon removed the tumour, it is not expected to return, nor is there any evidence the cancer has spread anywhere else. Hurrah! His other infections have healed up and a shiny, healthy fur coat covers his new physique. As his health has improved, Gibson's sweet, happy personality has emerged more and more every day. He will possibly need some longer term, inexpensive allergy and ear medication. And we will be getting a dental done for Gibson before he moves onto his forever family. Formerly an apartment dweller, Gibson had to be convinced that it is ok to go outside in a secure yard without a leash. Under the gentle care of #elderdogcanada, and our amazing #volunteers, he has flourished. Gibson just loves his new freedom, soaking up the sun, playing outdoors with his k9 housemate, chasing after sticks and watching anything going on: birds, squirrels, people passing by. Inside, he lives happily with other dogs and the resident cat, who as you can see has taken a shine to this sweet boy! They may be the cutest canine/feline buddies in the whole of Halifax, if not the whole of Canada. Gibson enjoys toys, stuffed Kongs, chew sticks and being brushed. But mostly, he really just wants to bury his big head in your lap and receive lots of love and attention. He completely adores being talked to! Being a food-motivated, person-centred smarty pants, Gibson is quick to learn new things. He sits and waits for his meals, shakes his paw and sometimes spins in excitement for his food. Out on walks, he has to check out everything the world has to offer, especially all the pee mail to catch up on. Gibson really bonds with his people and would do well in a home that is comfortable with his protective shepherd instincts. Though he's quiet inside, he tends to bark outdoors when he is unsure: at some, but not all other dogs, people, sirens, etc. He can confuse or frighten puppies (and people) who hear his big bark but see his wagging tail and read his loose, friendly body language. Maybe he likes the sound of his voice! At 75 lbs, he can pull when something catches his interest (like a tree or fire hydrant) so his new companion should be physically able to manage his curiosity and continue his learning as the weather warms up. Gibson's ideal forever home would: - be ready to appreciate and engage his brain in new and fun activities - be knowledgeable about his breed - have a fully fenced backyard and commit to regular leash walks. - have someone around: Gibson has suffered enough boredom! Gibson is not destructive and can be left loose in the house for several hours when his people go out. - have another playful dog in the home or a visiting canine pal, - have plenty of love, patience, kindness, belly rubs, positive, fun interactions, comfort and security that Gibson so deserves - kids/grandkids over 12 due to his size. If you would like to be considered for this sweet boy, please email [email protected] **Please remember, for all our dogs we aim to find the best fit. But for dogs like Gibson who've suffered so much, this is extra important! We thank you for your application!**
