Kwanzaa is an African cultural holiday that has been adopted around the world to celebrate African family, community, and culture. It lasts seven days, from Dec...ember 26 to January 1. This celebration was founded in 1966 in the United States, and had come to Canada by 1993. The cities of Toronto and Brampton, Ontario, proclaimed Kwanzaa Week in 2018. The word kwanzaa comes from the Swahili language and means first fruits. There are seven symbols displayed during this holiday, including fruits, and vegetables to represent abundance and a Kinara (seven-branched candle holder) with candles to represent the colors of the Pan-African flag.
