Discoveries for today are a little special to me. The tiny pyramids are Chromite and the middle picture is a splat of gold cute as can be. It is tiny but huge. ...No mining has been done in this area and it was not known for gold. These were found in the crystal field and opens a new chapter here at the Richardson. See more

I would like to introduce all of you to my nephew Andrew Woodside.(Andrew Andrew Andrew I am so proud to know such a wonderful young man. Andrew has now complet...ed over 1000 km in his bike challenge for childrens cancer. We need your support. Children with cancer need your support. I am asking everyone to share this post and share every post you see about the Great Cycle Challenge. My biggest request is if you see these wonderful people cycling through your town or on the highways this summer, be kind and give them the space to complete their challenge. They are the angels among us. See more

Diopside. Chrome diopside to be precise. The green is dark and clear precise crystals. I am trying to find the connection between Diopside and Gold. Both are hydro-thermal and now I learn diopside is an indicator for diamonds. Once again the crystal field surprised us all.

This is the result of a very special day at Eldorado Experience. It was a drought summer and by fall water levels dropped enough to expose the entrance into the... crosscut. This crosscut is 60 feet long and 70 feet under ground. This is the first and only video of the crosscut dug in 1885-1886. Please forgive the over excited language and know the video remains unedited so you can also experience the moment just as we had. See more

This was found along the north side of the farm here at the Eldordo Experience.I think it will be close to impossible to determine what it was or what it could be now. Natural Art of a Glacier and Time?

I was asked about the magnetic properties here at the Richardson Gold Mine in Eldorado Ontario. The pieces shown were collected from the ore pile made by the Ph...oenix Mining Co in 1868. I brought these pieces home because the larger piece is mostly sphalerite and the other 2 pieces( 1 originally) was very heavy for such a small piece. I broke the 2nd piece in half to see the inside. Total weight was 201 grams and it broke into 77.4 gms and 124 gms. Pictures are the inside of the 2nd piece. Total weight of the magnets was 500gms. See more

2017 has been a very wet season. In my 10 years here I have never seen water levels that high in the mine shafts. Every day it rained and every morning the soils would wash away from the ore pile exposing new layers of mineral and crystals. The garnets found this year were large and gemmy, beautiful color and abundant. Hemetite hemimorphite geothite and arsenickle topped the chart for colors and rarities. I love this place and I love the people who take the time to visit. Today ends the 2017 season, Im a little sad however the memories of all those wonderful days in the woods will make this a short winter and I look forward to seeing all of you again next spring. A special thank you for your support and your friendship. Best wishes until we meet again. Thank you.
