BREAKING NEWS... It has come to my attention that Mayor John Tory and Willowdale councillor John Fillion have approved a Refugee Center in the Willowdale area. The previous Hydro One building at 5800 Yonge St has been leased to the City since before the election. It seems both Mayor and John Fillion knew about the plans for housing refugees in Willowdale long before the election and both stayed quiet because it would have cost them votes. I have no problem with immigrants, my... parents are immigrants and I am the product of said immigrants. I do have a problem with those coming into Canada illegally and being welcomed in with open arms and those claiming refugee status skipping ahead of all those who wish to come to Canada legally. We have plenty of issues here at home, people live on the streets, children go hungry, it is shameful what happens to those Canadians who are already here. Shouldn’t we be taking care of them first? No, we welcome strangers and without any kind of checks we put them up in hotel conditions and give them money. I am sure that giving strangers money is comfort to the homeless freezing on Toronto streets. Shame on you for turning your back on the people of our city. Willowdale has embraced all ethnicities & races and is known to be one of the most diverse multi cultural WARDS in Toronto, BUT to place a REFUGEE CAMP in the heart of our community will be devastating. This decision has a high risk of increasing crime and uncertainty within the community. To make a decision without consulting the community again shows lack of leadership within BOTH Mayor and COUNCILLOR FILLION offices. See more
