Factors That Affect the Lifespan of Washing Machines Wash Frequency: Did you know that reducing your wash load to 6 per week could lessen the demand on your washing machine by 600 700 cycles in its lifetime. Based on the calculations above, this could extend its lifespan by 2 years. That’s quite a considerable increase. Remember you can wear some clothes more than once before washing (with the exception of underwear!).... Overloading: It is part of good maintenance not to overload your washing machine. Washers are designed and rated within a certain weight limit, depending on the size and model. Try not to wash more laundry (by weight) than what your washing machine was designed for. In fact, if you load a bit lighter than the machine’s weight limit, this can ease up the normal wear and tear of crucial washing machine parts, like the motor, belts, couplings, bearings, and some mechanisms. Take extra care if your unit is not brand new or has some years to it already. Detergent Overuse Using more detergent than the manufacturer's recommendation can be detrimental to your washing machine, according to experts. Using too much could cause too many suds and your washer to overflow. Plus, if you have a high-efficiency washers need even less soap to wash clothing properly, so be sure to skimp on the detergent and only use soaps marked safe for HE machines.

Four Ways to Clean a Dirty, Grease-Splattered Stovetop Before you begin: Start by removing food crumbs and spills on either your gas and electric stove top. For a gas stovetop, firstly remove the grates. Soak them in warm, soapy water and remove dirt and debris with a soft brush. When you are done, only the stuck-on messes should be left. Method 1: Using warm water and a drop of dishwashing liquid, lather up a sponge or soft brush. Apply it to the greasy stovetop, rubbing... in a circular motion, and concentrating on the greasy areas. Let the soapy water sit for a few minutes on the surface. As you start to see the grease loosen, follow with a damp cloth. For a really messy stovetop, work in small areas, wiping as you go. Method 2: If simple soap and water didn't do the trick, try this instead: Sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda on the stovetop. Slice a lemon in half and rub the cut side on the stovetop in a circular motion. The mildly abrasive baking soda and the naturally degreasing lemon juice will form a scrubbing paste. Continue scrubbing until you can wipe away the grease with a damp sponge or cloth. Method 3: Combine baking soda with a few drops of dishwashing liquid and a few drops of water directly on the stovetop. Let the solution sit for 10 minutes, before wiping with a damp cloth. Method 4: If the natural cleaning methods above didn't work, it may be time to try a store-bought degreasing spray. There are many natural ones available. Follow the product instructions for a grease-free stovetop.

Three Reasons Why Your Washer Isn’t Cleaning Your Clothes Properly 1. Wrong wash setting If your clothes are always coming out of the washer less than clean, the reason could be that you’re using the same cycle for all of your clothing - regardless of the labels. The normal setting isn’t necessarily best for every item of clothing that you own. Take time to look at all of your clothing labels and keep in mind which clothes need to be washed alone, in small groups or on a de...licate cycle. 2. Blocked drain hose This can occasionally happen when you wash an item like a rug that sheds a lot or a small object like a child’s sock. To check the drain hose, detach it and look for any twists or obstructions, removing any unnecessary items. If it looks worn or badly damaged, you should replace it so that the washer will drain better. 3. Clogged drain pump filter When a drain pump filter is blocked, it can prevent the water from draining and leave your clothes smelling like mildew. Small items like keys, jewellery or hairpins can get stuck in the filter, and over time this can become so clogged that the washer won’t work effectively. - Turn off the washer power and iidentify where the pump filter is. Typically, there is an access door on the bottom (refer to your manual to double check). - Open the access door and grab a shallow dish and place it underneath to catch any excess water. Turn the filter knob counterclockwise slowly and allow the water to drain into the dish. - Take the pump filter all the way out and remove any built-up debris. Slide the filter back in and turn clockwise until it’s tightly secured. Electrafix is here for all your washer needs. Three Causes of Dishwasher Leaks Dishwasher Door Leaking If the water is pooling directly under the door, a leak in the door itself is likely the cause of the issue. Your door latch may be bent or loose, or not closing properly. Try tightening the latch with a screwdriver to secure the closure. New latch systems may need installing. ... If water still runs from the door, the gasket (rubber door seal) might need replacing. If your gasket is damaged, this can be replaced with relative ease. Soak your new gasket in warm soapy water, which will make it flexible and easier to re-install. While you’re working on the door, go ahead and tighten the hinges if they’re loose. Dishwasher Tub Leaking If water is pooling under your dishwasher, the tub may have a hole. Detergents and minerals can corrode the bottom of your tub over time, causing water to seep through and collect under your dishwasher. It’s possible to fix some tubs, but depending on the age of your unit and severity of the problem, you may need to replace your dishwasher entirely. Loose or Damaged Valves With use, over time, connections and hoses inside your dishwasher can become loose. Check your drain hoses to ensure everything is securely connected (including the clamps holding the hose in place on either side) and verify your water inlet valve isn’t stuck - this would certainly cause flooding. If you have cracked hoses, they’re easy to replace with a trip to the hardware store. Electrafix is here to help you with all your dishwasher and appliance needs. Five Reasons Why Your Oven is Cooking Unevenly 1. Oven isn’t calibrated properly Over time, a lot of heating and cooling can put stress on an oven, and so the accuracy of temperature can wear out over time. ... 2. Faulty temperature sensor You can check your temperature sensor inside your oven by preheating and checking that the temperature sensor is rising with the heat. If this isn’t the case, the temperature sensor will need replacing. 3. Your oven racks need re-adjusting If you have a brand-new oven, you’ll need to learn how it cooks. Take note of the placement of your racks, and how your food is cooking. For example, if your food is burnt on top but undercooked on the bottom, your rack may need lowering. You may even need to rotate your food as it cooks to ensure it's heated evenly. 4. Broken elements There are two elements in your oven the bake element and the broil element. If either of these are broken or faulty, your oven isn’t going to cook evenly and they need to be replaced. 5. Oven fan not working If you’re the owner of a convection oven, the fan is the most important part of your appliance. This fan is vital in distributing the heat evenly around the oven, helping food to cook evenly. When the oven is on, check to see if your fan sounds louder than usual, or if it seems to be working slower than usual. If this is the case, wait until your oven is completely cool and turn the fan by hand. If there is any resistance, it's time to replace the fan! Our appliance repair experts at Electrafix can help you with all your oven needs. Contact us today at https://www.electrafixbc.ca/contact.html

How Long Can You Leave Refrigerator Doors Open? When you were young, did your parents ever say to you: "shut the fridge door; you'll let all the cold out."? It’s a common line kids hear growing up, but is it even true? Most of us know that leaving a refrigerator door open for long periods of time will warm up your food and cause your refrigerator to have to work harder in order to keep the food cool. But if you open and close it a bunch of times - for example, when you are ...loading groceries or making food - are you actually using more energy by opening and shutting the refrigerator door? According to experts, apparently not. In fact, opening and closing your refrigerator doors a multiple times is better than leaving them open the whole time. For the best energy conservation, a good rule of thumb is not to keep your doors open for longer than 30 seconds at a time.
