Yanmar 3ym30 serpentine Kit installation - report from one of our customers I own a Lagoon catamaran, and ever since buying the boat, I have been struggling with slipping alternator V-belts, black belt dust everywhere in my engine rooms, and loss of charging current to the batteries.... Especially after upgrading the Lead/acid batteries for LiFePO4, the situation became even worse, due the increased current draw from the alternators. Replacing the V-belts several times during the season is a real pain. I found a good solution, and I want to share my experience; After some research, I decided to install Electromaax serpentine belts and pulleys on both engines. I also added the adjustable belt tensioner from Electromaax. Installation was fairly easy, and took around 2 hours per engine. Some points; 1. Removing the nut of the alternator axle was not easy, and I ended up getting an impact tool, then it was no problem. The V-belt pulley was replaced with a machined serpentine belt pulley supplied by Electromaax. 2. The Yanmar plastic belt cover needs to go, and will not fit after the installation is complete, because the new serpentine belt is much wider than a V-belt. 3. The fresh water cooling water hose, running next to the belt, needs to be pulled away from the new serpentine belt, or it will chafe. I used a cable tie to hold it away, and will soon add a new bracket to hold the water hose in place. 4. Replacing the fresh water pump pulley was very easy, only the old bolts had to be re-used, because the supplied bolts were too short, but that was no problem at all. 5. The flywheel pulley was just slipped over the existing pulley, and fixed with 4 bolts supplied in the kit. 6. Installing the new pulley on the alternator shaft was easy, but I had to machine an extra disc, to enable the new pulley to be fastened correctly. The thickness of the new pulley was 3 mm thinner than the V-belt discs, and did not compress/fixate the new pulley, because the thread on the alternator shaft was not long enough to allow good compression of the new pulley. (note from Electromaax this sometimes happens when not using a standard stock Alternator) All in all I am very satisfied, and now looking forward to cleaning the engine bays and enjoying the new Electromaax serpentine belt installation

Installation Write up from one of our customers for a Perkins 4.236 with ElectroMaax Serpentine Kit For full details visit https://electromaax.com/Projects/... Since maintenance was due on the heat exchanger, we drained the coolant and removed the expansion tank. With easier access, we removed the water pump pulley using an impact on the retaining nut while keeping tension on the V-belt to keep the pulley from turning. Removed the bolts on the face of the OEM pulley and with a pulley puller the pulley came right off. There is a woodruff key for the pump shaft. The first attempt on mounting the new pulley sent the woodruff key askew and had to start over. The second attempt was successful by honing down the woodruff key and the keyway in new pulley until it slid easily in and out of the new pulley keyway. We used the zinc chromate anti-seize paste on surfaces where dissimilar metals touched to inhibit any electrolysis. (this was supplied in the kit) Remove OEM water pump pulley. The new crank pulley slides over the existing crank pulley. After removing the mounting bolts, it was clear the tolerances were too close for the pulley to just slip over the existing crank pulley, so I removed all the paint and corrosion off the face and perimeter of engine crank pulley. Once again, lathered all contact surfaces of dissimilar metals with a zinc chromate paste. Pictures below show the different stages of the install and further comments.

Testimonial from Eric. GenMAAX... stunning and confirmed all the expectations! we just returned from a week cruising up and down the Costa Brava, anchoring all the time, no marina for Power and Water! ... After the installation of the replacement generator had been completed, we left the marina last Sunday. Motoring to and from an anchorage was the ideal opportunity to engage our two GenMaax alternators. What I saw was stunning and confirmed all the expectations I had when I decided to buy them as a major source of power, besides the Solar Array. Most of the time, I ran the engines @ 2000 rpm and what I saw was 100A from each GenMaax charging the House Batteries. So with two of them engaged, producing 200A I had my house batteries back from 70% to 100% in far less than an hour. Using the Lighthouse generator would take about 4 times as long! Yes, I understand and used the generator when we had a high AC load, like stove and oven at the same time, but that was more a consideration to not overload the inverter than anything else. In summary, I'm really happy about what I saw and I am convinced we could live without the Lighthouse Generator which saves significant weight and cost. That space could be used for the MasterVolt batteries and would allow the DC tech-space being dedicated 100% for DC and CZone circuitry, all in one space. - Eric B.

Testimonial from Mike W. Electromaax Cruiser 140, with serpentine belt/pulley kit and belt tensioner on a 2005 Hunter 36, Yanmar 3YM30 engine. I installed this setup in 2009 and it is still working flawlessly. No black belt dust, No belt squealing, and easy to tension. No more propping a hammer handle or a large screwdriver to lever the alternator away from the engine while tightening bolts to hold it in place!... I have also installed the belt/pulley/tensioner kit on two 3JH4 engines and they were also a fairly quick and easy install, taking under an hour from start to finish. On these larger engines I purchased the Electomaax idler wheel to get more wrap on the belt around the alternator pulley to prevent belt squeal when drawing over 150A from the Electromaax Genmaax alternators. Electromaax support was quick to answer the few questions I had concerning my installation. I can highly recommend Electrommaax pulley kits and both Cruiser and Genmaax alternators. Testimonial from Lance C. Thanks to All at ElectroMaax! I rarely comment on a product or company, however, ElectroMaax is absolutely deserving. My mechanic suggested I consider the Serpentine Belt and Pulley kit based on his personal experience on his boat. Mine is a Yanmar 3JH3E a serpentine belt is superior to a standard 'V' belt in every possible way. One simple tension adjustment (forever), no slippage, no carbon or rubber being ingested, increased water pump and al...ternator output. You'll simply never be concerned again. Talk about great product support. The Yanmar kit comes with a standard sized , 10 rib belt that is fine for most installations, but, not mine. I have an alternator clearance issue with one side of the engine box. I called on a Thursday and had four shorter belts in my hands on Friday. Keep the two that fit best and send the others back. This during a pandemic with shipment from Ontario to SW Florida. That requires great people going far beyond what one would normally expect. Bottom line, my issue became their issue and it was immediately solved; WOW! I highly recommend you explore the ElectroMaax.com website, watch the videos and place your order. Really, I believe in their products and people that much. I'll be back when I need to replace my batteries. My very best to All, Stay safe. - Lance Catlin See more
