A calm Halloween morning, dressed in colours to make my soul dance. Kendall and I carved pumpkins that we grew this year, they’re called Casper, I loved them so much I almost didn’t want to cut them open but I’m happy we did. I can’t remember a year where I haven’t carved a pumpkin, since I was old enough to. Forty some years of sticking my hands inside that gooey mess, the feeling of mining for treasure as you come out with fistfuls of the white seeds. These pumpkins yiel...ded a shocking amount of them too so I baked three cookie sheets full and saved a handful to plant again next year, as we harvest and put the garden to bed we plan for the new beginnings of next year, may the circle be unbroken. Samhain/Halloween marks the end of the Celtic year, the death season as Nature gracefully winds down. The Blue Moon tonight promises some big illuminations literally and metaphorically. In class the other night we built a little bonfire in my old cauldron and burnt everything we needed to release as well as bay leaves inscribed with the names of our dearly departed. We all stood quietly in the dark with the smoke blowing around us, each lost in our own thoughts, our griefs and fragile hopes burning like the sparks that flew off our little fire. How easy it is to get caught up in the great speed life seems to move at, to stop doing the things that create magic in the huge exhaustion that seems to have invaded us all. As I lined up the pumpkins on the front step a huge sense of happiness came over me. The honouring of a tradition that has thrilled me since childhood and beyond into multiple past lives, that sense of being part of the Great Life/Death turn of the wheel, when people celebrated each season and sat in gratitude of whatever they’d been through because that is the purpose of this whole human gig. Live as well as you can, Love as deeply possible and Be Grateful for all the blessings. Breathe through the hardships, angers and labour pains and cry through your grief but know that always, you are part of the beautiful circle that spans this planet, connecting all living beings. #samhain #halloween #cycles

Witching up the place.

Autumn Equinox; a time to harvest, to take stock, to celebrate the fact you’ve made it this far! I cooked up salsa with the masses of cherry tomatoes from the garden; as I stirred I thought about how grateful I was for all the bounty that grew out in the yard this summer. How grateful I was to even have time to plant the garden. What a time of extreme juxtapositions, fear and faith, love and hate, right and wrong. I truly believe everything and nothing at this time and do my... best to be strong and grounded in the light for those who need me, that’s my job at this time. What I do know, what I’ve always known is the power of Nature to always heal itself and to always bring back balance even when we humans haven’t got a frickin clue.
