Technology is fantastic and definitely has a purpose...but balance is key. A recently released position paper from the Canadian Paediatric Association indicated... that the average Canadian 4-year-old now watches 4-5 hours of TV per day. The picture below compares the draw-a-person assessment of 5-6 year-olds who watch 1 hour per day versus children who watch 3 or more hours of TV per day. See more

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share some new photographs of their family as they visited the RHS - Royal Horticultural Society Back to ...Nature Garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The RHS Back to Nature Garden, designed by The Duchess and award-winning landscape architects Andree Davies and Adam White of Davies White Landscape Architects, is a woodland setting for families and communities to come together and connect with nature. Her Royal Highness is a strong advocate for the proven benefits the outdoors has on physical and mental health, and the positive impact that nature and the environment can have on childhood development in particular. I really feel that nature and being interactive outdoors has huge benefits on our physical and mental wellbeing, particularly for young children. I really hope that this woodland that we have created really inspires families, kids and communities to get outside, enjoy nature and the outdoors, and spend quality time together. - The Duchess of Cambridge. Over the past months, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have helped The Duchess gather moss, leaves and twigs to help decorate the garden. Hazel sticks collected by the family were also used to make the garden’s den. Tomorrow Her Majesty The Queen, accompanied by other Members of the Royal Family, will attend the #ChelseaFlowerShow. The photographs were taken by Matt Porteous.

One of the strengths of expressive and body-based approaches comes about through various activities involving regulation. While we often talk about self-regulat...ion, actually the way to establish it is through co-regulation (with caregiver and therapist) and social or shared regulation (working together to regulate). Nice chart that summarizes these concepts with a focus on children (this pertains to adults too). See more

A few more pieces to add but we were too excited not to try it out this car wash! A great sensory experience that you can crawl or scooter board through! Body awareness, getting used to light touch, coordination, shoulder stability, core and a whole lot of fun! This piece will stay at the alternate clinic I work at but it was such fun to build with my OTA student I just had to share! #sensory #occupationaltherapy #pediatricot #ottawa #outaouais #gatineau #motorskills
