Just received my 5 year gym bag from Michelle at CrossFit Newmarket Central. Lots of blood, sweat, and tears went into that bag:). What an amazing community to be a part of. Many thanks to all the practitioners, staff and coaches who do an outstanding job, day in and day out, of making fitness fun and challenging. CFNAC has been a truly outstanding place to be a part of. You guys are the best. Can’t wait to see what I’ll get at the 10 year mark .

This is how Dr. Craig stays fit while we’re at the cottage. By the way, this is Dr. Shawna posting The first pic is zoomed in so you can appreciate the power of a floating buddy . The second pic shows where he actually is on the river. It’s about a 2km swim once finished. If you’ve ever wondered how he stays so fit in his 50’s, it’s because he stays moving all the time. Up here, we have boat anchors for weights, water jugs for kettle bells, pull up bars, kayaks, paddle b...oards, canoes, a diving platform, a rope swing, waterskiis and other water play paraphernalia. Anything can be mobility and/or strength training if we want it to be. Don’t get me wrong, we love to sit an enjoy a beer on the dock and good meals with family and friends. It’s definitely a place of relaxation. But we couple it with activity that helps us stay fit and feel young at the same time. That’s moving by design.

COVID 19 Update. Hello everyone. We are on holidays this week but thought we would update you on our current status. As a precautionary measure, and in accordance with our various colleges and governing bodies, Elevate Chiropractic will remain CLOSED next week when our holidays are over. At this point we will remain closed until March 30th, however, the situation is fluid and seems to change daily. We will keep you advised as the situation unfolds.... EMERGENCY VISITS: We understand that many of you are suffering and will require care during that time. The government sanctioned closure has allowed for both acute and emergency chiropractic visits. These acute/emergency visits are defined as any chiropractic appointments that will require care or problems that would potentially flare-up before we re- open. Please call or text us for any of the following: * If you suffer a fall, trauma, or injury affecting muscle, spine, nervous system. * If you are dealing with an incapacitating problem or pain. * You have some form of ongoing (chronic) pain and seek regular treatment to manage the condition and to prevent a flare-up of symptoms. * If you feel that the withdrawal of care would lead to an unacceptable deterioration of your condition, which makes the care provided to you an essential service. * You are suffering and need care. Rest assured, extra caution will be taken to book patients separate from each other with thorough sanitizing procedures between each patient. HOW TO CONTACT US: If you are uncertain what constitutes an emergency visit, please feel free to contact Dr. McClelland at [email protected] or Dr. Dingman at [email protected] to discuss. Additionally, we will be making every effort to answer voicemails and emails left on the regular office email and phone line. Dr. Liz Bolen will continue to provide on line consultations. Are You Taking Vitamin D? Recently, I seem to be hearing people talk a lot about the fall cold and flu season. If you have been a little under the weather lately, if you’ve been feeling a little draggy, or if your energy is just not what it normally is and you can’t quite figure out why, it may be vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D is required for many bodily functions. Bone density and immune system function are a few important ones. In our bodies vitamin D needs to be activ...ated in our skin by exposure to the sun. As a result, just about every Canadian will have low, if not insufficient, vitamin D levels at this point in the winter if they are not supplementing with vitamin D. The combination of very little sunlight, short days, and cold weather leave most of us indoors and without adequate sun exposure to produce enough vitamin D to maintain health. Consequently, our immunity is down and we get sick. So we need to supplement - during the winter at the very least. But the controversial question is: how much do I need to take? Lots of patients tell me they are taking vitamin D in their multi vitamin. Almost without exception, a multi vitamin has inadequate vitamin D. It is usually in the neighbourhood of 500 or 1000 IUs (international units). Recent research shows that clinical dosage of vitamin D begins in the range of 4000 IU/day. So if you are supplementing with less than this it is probably not helping. That being said, vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin. That means that you can take too much. How do you get it just right? Well, you test it. A simple blood test done for two years in a row, twice per year (spring and fall) will give you a really good indication of how much you need to take to maintain healthy vitamin D levels based on your activity levels and life style. I monitored my own vitamin D through our testing (its just a simple finger prick blood test) and discovered that I need to supplement in the winter but not in the summer. I spend a lot of time outdoors in the summer and can activate adequate vitamin D through natural sun exposure so no supplementation is required. In the winter I need some. So I supplement with liquid vitamin D for six months of the year. Hope that helps. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Dr Craig
