Board of Directors Volunteer Position St. Thomas Early Learning Centre is a multi-service agency providing licensed child care programs, home child care service...s. Within in our programs we are able to offer support to families that may require casual or flex care schedules and full and part time care. Our Child Care Programs and Services are offered in St. Thomas and Elgin County. St. Thomas Early Learning Centre is inspired to create high quality experiences for families and children. St. Thomas Early Learning Centre is currently recruiting dynamic leaders to join its Board of Directors for one (1) term of four (4) year term. Qualifications: Knowledge of St. Thomas and Elgin County Commitment to organization’s mission and strategic directions A commitment of time Openness to learning Prior board experience is an asset Accountability: The Board of Directors act in a position of trust for the community and is responsible to ensure the effective governance and leadership of St. Thomas Early Learning Centre. The Board of Directors is collectively accountable to the community, funders and other stakeholders. General Duties: All Directors are expected to be fully informed on Early Learning Centre matters and participate in discussions and decisions in matters of policy, finance, programs, personnel and advocacy Prepare for and attend board meetings Work as a team member and support board decisions Participate in the review of Early Learning Centre’s mission and objectives and the development of a strategic plan Demonstrate loyalty, commitment and fiduciary responsibility Monitor the performance of the organization in relation to Board Ends, Financial Responsibilities and Strategic planning Be assured that the Board and its committees are adequately and currently informed - through reports and other methods Be assured that reports properly reflect the operating results and financial condition of The Early Learning Centre Ascertain that management has established appropriate policies to define and identify conflicts of interest throughout the Early Learning Centre, and is diligently administering and enforcing those policies Appoint independent auditors subject to approval by members Approve the budget and monitor financial performance in relation to it Abide by the by-laws, code of conduct and other polices that apply to the board Establish, review and monitor polices that guide core operational practices (e.g. financial management) Participate in fundraising activities of the Early Learning Centre Participate in hiring, performance evaluation and releasing the Executive Director Participate in the recruitment of new board members Participate in the evaluation of the board itself Attend and participate in the Annual General Meeting Keep informed about community issues relevant to the mission and objectives of the Early Learning Centre Desired Skills and Knowledge To complement the Board, we are looking for skills and experience in the following areas: Risk Management, Strategic Planning, Finance, Human Resources, and Governance Personal Benefits Opportunity to represent an impactful community organization. The individual must have a general understanding of how a child ca...re Centre is run, as well as the ability to take initiative, plan, and execute tasks as needed. The Finance Manager should have a strong understanding of accounting principles, as well as legal and ethical business practices. If ...your child has potential covid symptoms, but they are mild and you would not normally seek our advice - call 519-631-2020 x 6210 to book a swab at the assessment centre and keep your child home until asymptomatic - you can still go to work if you need to and have alternate childcare arrangements or if your child is old enough to stay home on their own. We won't be able to distinguish a regular cold or fever from COVID without a swab and if you call us first we are likely to tell you to get a swab. 3. If you think your child may have something else or if you need advice on how to manage your child's symptoms - call as you usually would to book a phone or virtual appointment or an in person appointment if necessary and we'll assess your child and help you figure out what to do next. 4.
