Through the Sweetgrass Fund, Elgin-St. Thomas Community Foundation was able to assist the Port Stanley and Area Community Cupboard when this food bank ran into a real problem with its refrigeration and freezing situation. The Biehl Fund also supported the Cupboard located in Christ Anglican Church. Ian McDonald writes, "The first picture is a glass door reconditioned fridge while the second is a new freezer (just in time as one of our freezers just conked out!) Thank you very much for your support . Your generosity has given us much needed tools to keep us helping our clients! Neighbours helping Neighbours!" #4elgin4ever, #stthomasproud, #elgincounty, #communityfoundationsofcanada

The Jean and Fred Biehl Fund within Elgin St. Thomas Community Foundation grants to environmental and animal welfare charities, both locally and across Canada. A recent grant to Ecojustice will support causes like a climate lawsuit by seven youth arguing that an alleged failure by the Ontario government to combat climate change is a violation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Through the Emergency Community Support Fund, supported by the Government of Canada, your local Community Foundation was able to grant $6K to Habitat For Humanity's St. Thomas Restore for Personal Protective Equipment during the pandemic. #4elgin4ever, #stthomasproud, #elgincounty, #communityfoundationsofcanada
Great idea to help those who can't afford technology
The Jean and Fred Biehl Fund within Elgin - St. Thomas Community Foundation recently granted a little over $1,000 to the Humane Society of London & Middlesex, just another example of a Community Foundation grant in action. ##communityfoundationsinaction

The Christmas Shoppe volunteers with chair Judy Thorner were pleased to receive $5,000 from the Community Foundation's Sweetgrass, COVID-19 Response, and Frances Tarry COVID-19 Relief Funds. The Shoppe is open one week during December. Agencies and churches send invitations to people who spend $10 on Christmas shopping and receive $100 to $150 in value for their families. #4elgin4ever, #stthomasproud, #elgincounty, #communityfoundation

All the elves went into high gear today so they'd have everything ready for next week's toys and food deliveries to local people who need Christmas cheer. The most recent donation, $500 from the Turnberry Fund within the Community Foundation, helped with this year's campaign.
Thank you to everyone who has donated so generously to help us grow our Great-EST Needs Fund. Since this campaign started, the Fund has grown by over $4,500. We were able to add an additional $500 from the donations over $10,000 to our 100 People Who Care event. So the grand total to date is over $5,000, and donations are still coming in. Thank you!
YWCA St. Thomas Elgin 'Youth Independence Program' received the most votes December 1 during 100 People Who Care and was awarded $10,000 for its Youth Independence project. The project is a classroom-based curriculum with the Thames Valley District School Board intended to teach life skills to at-risk youth entering into homelessness. It will help them to stand on their own two feet and walk toward a better future. Thank you to EVERYONE who donated! Some 11th-hour contributio...ns yesterday meant that we reached 105 donors. All funds over $10,000 are being allocated to the Great-EST Needs Fund within ESCF.
