We gave our darling granddaughter Juliet a doll for her fifth birthday. I'm hoping a doll wearing glasses might encourage her to be bookish like me!

I was tired of the earth tone colour of my living room, so I repainted it white. What do you think? Here are two before and after shots.

My mother painted this vase many years ago, and it still brightens up my day whenever I look at it. She was a gifted ceramic artist. (She also embroidered the dresser scarf as a young girl).

WAITING TO BE READ I'm on a mission to go through my bookshelf and read everything that hasn’t been read yet. I’m down to these last four books! I don’t know why they have been languishing on my shelf because I’m sure they are all good books.

I picked up this framed hand-tinted photograph at a garage sale for $5 a few years ago. I think it's an original but I don't want to take the old frame apart to see if there's anything written on the back. At the time I didn't know anything about the photographer, but I loved the image. So I was doubly thrilled to find a book about the photographer Byron Harmon at yet another garage sale!

MAKE IT PERSONAL . . . I’m happy to sign, dedicate, and mail books for Christmas gifts. I’ll even gift wrap them on request. It costs $15 to mail a book in the four Western provinces, and $20 to mail a book anywhere east of the Manitoba border. The good news is that it costs the same to mail ANY TWO of my books to the same address as it costs to mail one! (If you want to order more than two books, send me your mailing address for an exact quote. If you live outside Canada, se...nd me your mailing address for an exact quote.) My cost in Canadian dollars for My Favourite Veterans is $30 ($5 off retail), Bird’s Eye View is $25, and Wildwood is $20. No taxes. Pay by cheque, email transfer, or credit card. Here's my contact info: www.elinorflorence.com/contact To read more about the books: www.elinorflorence.com/wildwood www.elinorflorence.com/birdseyeview www.elinorflorence.com/myfavouriteveteran

Named for the future British prime minister, Winston Churchill Parker of Okotoks, Alberta joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in the Second World War, served as a wireless air gunner in a Wellington bomber, was shot down on his unlucky thirteenth mission, and spent the rest of the war in a German prison camp. He died on November 16, 2020 at the age of 102. Lest we forget. Read his story here: www.elinorflorence.com/blog/ww2-pow

BRING THE BANNER PROGRAM TO YOUR TOWN . . . This is my Dad's banner, hanging in Battleford, Saskatchewan. Now that Remembrance Day is over, you might wish to consider bringing the Honour Our Veterans Banner Program to your own community for next year. I have written a step-by-step guide here, and I'm also willing to answer your questions by telephone or email. www.elinorflorence.com/blog/veteran-banners
