Easter Weekend Trail Report We were out putting up more signage today and found sections that are still wet after the Sunday storm. Mostly in the NE and NW corners. Please Braap gently and don’t braid: A trench is easier to fix than a swamp. All the private campgrounds by the lake along Dorr Rd are still closed. The fee-based Loon Lake and Edwards Lake campgrounds are open, and so are the free Western Pine and Grasmere campgrounds. ... We are trying to find a way to inform our members on trail conditions for the coming spring. I think we have an idea. In the meantime, I hope these links to the HWY cameras can help. One pointing South at Elko, and one pointing North, at the US Border. https://www.drivebc.ca/mobile/pub/webcams/id/930.html https://www.drivebc.ca/mobile/pub/webcams/id/196.html... Help save the motorized trails in the Dorr area: Send your feedback on the Koocanusa Recreation Strategy. What we like: They are working with EVADRS and support sanctioning a trail network They built two staging areas for Motorized... They helped establish two new campgrounds/Rec sites in the Dorr area They initiated the trail signage in 2019 and support more signage They published a trail map What we encourage: Signage visible from the highway Further enhancements at Western pine to delineate campsites and a separate parking for big rigs Removing the comment about No New Motorized trails in Sensitive Areas, as we may need to create/reroute existing trails in these areas to make them sustainable, as opposed to closing them off. There is a form you can fill out, or you can post comments directly on the map. The map comments are a bit glitchy (works for points only on iPhone, not lines or areas) but it is good for area-specific comments. http://koocanusarecreation.ca/koocanusa-recreation-strategy

Dear members. Or if you are just a follower, gear up and become a member. I got a phone call from our local Conservation Officer and partner yesterday. The COs are happy to see a Society like EVADRS getting involved in Kooc to save the trails. A couple things: 1-Motorized and mountain bikers are encouraged to stay off the trails until they dry up. There’s moisture on the forecast for the weekend and next week, so don’t get the timbersled kit off just yet and keep playing in ...the snow. If you don’t like snow, do karaoke using enduro cross training videos. It’s not just dirt bikers: Mtbike clubs all over are asked to tell their members to do the same. Damaging a muddy trail is an enforceable offence. 2-Take a look at the picture below. The pink trail at the North end is the MTbike trail. The brownish area the trail is in is a Motorized Vehicle Closed Area (used to be called AMA). Getting caught there on a motorized vehicle now means a big fine if you just roll over and play dead, or a court order and seizing of your vehicle if you try to run away. 3-Don’t stage at the parking marked with an X. Even if you do nothing wrong and stay on the road, I bet your license plate will end up on Facebook the same day and you will have to repaint your truck a different colour. That’s a joke. Relax. 4-Park at Staging #1 marked with an O. It was built just for us with a dirt bank to unload. As a bonus your vehicle won’t plow through mud or dust on the Dorr cutoff rd and you will Braap quicker. the singletrack starts about 100m south, off the Jeep road. As you can probably tell, Cathy wasn’t there to make my post sound positive and constructive. Next time I’ll bring muffins. Get the trail map at EVADRS.ca Braap, Meep, Stephan

Hello Members, We did some work on the website this week. We updated the latest BC Covid restrictions (blah) and tried to make the Koocanusa section easier to navigate to find the trail map, campgrounds and staging areas. If you have a minute please take a look and let us know if you see any glitches! Braap, Meep, The EVADRS team. ... Www.EVADRS.ca

Looks like I missed out on a beautiful riding day in Kooc. No studded tires needed yet. Please keep spreading the word about not staging at the non-motorized area. We have a new staging area with dirt ramps right off the highway, 2km further South.

Shoulder season porn! I can’t believe it took as long as it did before it started boiling: 9 minutes. Lots of good advice: I like the approach for the tight corner at around 11 minutes. Now when it happens by accident and I almost flip over, I can pretend that I meant to ride it like Jarvis...

Great timing last week for returning to Bear Creek. Thanks to our friends at the Okanagan Trail Riders Association for all their work. 5 days of riding and we still left some runs on the table. We will be back in the spring! https://www.okanagantrailriders.com/

Hello present and future EVADRS members! With all the new visitors checking out our FB page this week, our Secretary thought that now would be a good time to quickly repost a few things. 1-Visit our website main page and see who we are and why you need to join. EVADRS.ca. 2-Get the latest Koocanusa trail map from our website. It can be used with the free Avenza app, turning your phone into a GPS. The map shows the staging areas and where camping is allowed. ... 3-Join the club. Braap, Meep, Your EVADRS team

Hello fellow riders! We have a situation. Dirt bikers went riding on the mountain bike trails in Kooc over the weekend. There is a report of large groups riding the trail and staging at the non motorized parking lot. To make things more aggravating, the Fernie Trail Alliance had a work party buffing up the trail last Friday. We thought the signage was evident enough but maybe not. If you happened to ride the trails by accident or know someone who did, please educate them on... the location of the motorized trails and the staging areas. I bet there’s a sh@t storm coming our way for this. Remember that when one screws up we all lose access. Braap, Meep, Stephan and the crew at EVADRS.ca These are the pics circulating on social media this morning... See more
