COR maintenance audits: I keep hearing the same thing from clients and non-clients and have to answer for anyone to read: No, COVID-19 has NOT created a situation where any company has been given a "by" for 2020 COR maintenance requirements. If you do not complete whatever your company's COR maintenance requirements are, you will lose your certificate of recognition at 00:01 01JAN2021. You will then require a certification audit post haste to get your COR back. Contact me for any other questions about your health and safety management system. Specialized in multi-jursisdictional programs and formal hazard assessments.

Another example to reaffirm no loose clothing when working around rotating equipment. Better yet, shut down equipment to eliminate the hazard completely. As this guy writes, he was lucky to get away with what only he did. Stay safe folk come this harvest and always. https://www.facebook.com/100000078918708/posts/3661834597162468/

On a six on, one off nightshift, the one off is really no benefit a person in fatigue management in my opinion. One tries to do stuff. That stuff requires alteration to your schedule. This is simply because the rest of the world is on a "day walker" schedule. All it does is requires one to train again for a nightshift pattern consisting of 3-4 days. Then once back in, two good days are had before starting the cycle all over. There are really two solutions - run all the way through for a 3-4 week period; or, run a longer set with 2-3 days off. Just my opinion from experience.

FR masks in live operating units when within six feet of another - what are your thoughts? I received one from a prime contractor client this morning as he informed me that he would be shadowing me. In my position I do have to lead by example, so fair enough. Most of my job can be conducted with social distancing in place. I do have to handle documents, so I have hand sanitizer accessible.... I have made one observation already. As I am nearly deaf in my left ear, coupled with hearing protection, I have read lips on occasion to determine what someone was saying in past crew communication. I have noticed now, if the other person is wearing a mask, I have to get within the physical distance criteria to ascertain what was being said. With both of us wearing masks, hearing protection, and within a noisy live operating unit, physical distancing communication was nearly impossible. I am very much a safety guy; however, is a forced reduction of physical distancing via PPE really better than just maintaining the distance to begin with? Just some observations so far.
