Churchman & Co. has been open throughout this time. We are committed to providing uncompromised service despite the pandemic. That being said, we have had to make some concessions for health and safety reasons. With Saskatchewan re-opening this month, we will be offering services through appointment only. If you have a legal concern, please call us to get started!
Watch Elke Churchman and others address will drafting in the time of COVID-19. It is a matter that more people are thinking about due to the pandemic. If you are thinking about getting a will done, we are currently offering a twenty-five percent discount on new or updated wills.
The attached article provides some guidance to parents on how to work through co-parenting in the time of COVID-19. Author Jackie Dunham speaks to several family law lawyers and refers to a recent decision from the Ontario Superior Court to share some insight into how best to deal with the situation. As Justice Pazaratz says in Ribeiro v Wright: "Parents are understandably confused and worried about what to do. Similarly, this is uncharted territory for our court system. ...We all have to work together to show flexibility, creativity and common sense to promote both the physical and emotional well-being of children. We will be looking to see if parents have made good faith efforts to communicate; to show mutual respect; and to come up with creative and realistic proposals which demonstrate both parental insight and COVID-19 awareness." If you have a few questions this is a great resource in our community.
In uncertain times, we often seek certainty in any form we can find it. This is indeed an uncertain time. One way to calm that sense of powerlessness in the face of something like COVID-19 is to set in stone plans for your future and for your family's future. Our office can help by working with you to draft a Last Will and Testament. Having a will in place can help you to clarify your future wishes and help your family to avoid having to make difficult decisions during an al...ready difficult time. Sadly, we know that a lot of people have things like this on their mind because of the current pandemic. We want to help you feel more certain about the future, so we are reducing the price of new and updated Wills, Powers of Attorney, and Health Care Directives by twenty-five percent. Contact our office today to get started.
Happy holidays from the Churchman & Co. Family!

Remember to look after yourself while going through a separation or divorce. While we try to make the process as stress free as possible for you, this is often a very difficult time for people. Remember to seek assistance with people you feel comfortable with if you are struggling, whether that be friends, family, or mental health professionals. #BellLetsTalk Check out the Saskatoon Health Region information Page to find helpful resources for you or your family: https://www.saskatoonhealthregion.ca//CommunityAdultMental

With the holidays fast approaching we know a lot of parents struggle at finding a parenting arrangement that works well for everyone, especially the kids. Here are some great tips on how to successfully navigate through the holiday season:
Want to know how much child support is appropriate? Use this tool provided by the government to help you. Remember there are some variables and if you want to discuss the particulars of your situation please call our office to book an appointment with Elke or Kim. http://www.justice.gc.ca/e/fl-df/child-enfant/look-rech.asp
For all those representing themselves out there this is a great initiative! Also, the Elke Churchman Law Office offers unbundled legal services to self represented clients. So if you're needing a little help filling out forms or preparing for court, but don't want to hire a lawyer to handle your whole case, give us a call!
If you're in need of help, check out the free family law assistance clinics in Saskatoon on Thursday, September 8th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Frances Morrison Central Library Computer Lab and on Friday, September 9th at the Law Society Library, Court of Queen’s Bench. These clinics are put on by Family Law Saskatchewan and are a great starting point for self represented litigants or people wanting more information.
PLEA (Public Legal Education Assistance) offers a variety of resources through their website which may be helpful when dealing with a legal issue. Here is a great article about the process of separation and divorce: http://www.plea.org/legal_resources/
We are happy to announce that our articling student, Kim Chatfield, recently got called to the Saskatchewan Bar. She went to Regina with her spouse, Brent and son, Huxley, to sign the rolls at the office of the Saskatchewan Law Society and is now officially a practicing lawyer!
We celebrated Kim's call to the Saskatchewan Bar back at the office and are excited to let our clients know that Kim is staying on with us and continuing to build her practice.
