In the weirdest race year in the history of the Elk Valley Dolphins, this speedster managed to pull off a blazing fast 50 fly and a speedy 50 back to enter into the virtual provincials. Big thanks to coaches, parents, and teammates who helped fire her up to race in unideal circumstances. Congratulations, Leah!!!
Go, Olivia Howse!!
Provincial Championship 50 fly race for Leah Soetaert - accompanied by teammates Holly Soetaert and Brock Tomlinson.
Great job, Dolphins!! https://www.thefreepress.ca//leah-soetaert-medals-at-vir/
Look who’s in the news again! Grab a copy of this week’s Fernie Free Press to learn about our finalists in this year’s (virtual) Divisional Championships ... and see Leah Soetaert soar:
Coach Angie’s latest sport parent article (written for a collaboration between Active for Life and the Canadian Olympic Committee) is now live. It features Carol Huyhn, Canada’s first Olympic Gold Medalist in women’s wrestling, and argues that the true value of sport is in the friendships. How many Dolphins agree? https://activeforlife.com/olympian-carol-huynh-inclusion/

CORRECTION to recent Fernie Free Press article (print version): Tatum Kipnik has been recruited by multiple schools and has been accepted at at Stevenson University in Baltimore, Maryland. She has not yet made a final decision and is still entertaining recruiting offers. (Note: the error is mine not the fault of The Free Press. It will be corrected before the article goes online. -Angie Abdou)
And we’re back! Our awesome teen swimmers welcomed the coaches with a sign ... and cookies! All before 6am, no less. What a club! Keen to be back in the pool and excited to see what 2021 will bring. Go, Dolphins!
Grab a Fernie Free Press today to check out an article on the club’s staffing updates. Happy New Year to all from the board and coaches!
We are seeking an enthusiastic coach to help the Elk Valley Dolphin Swim Club in their 2021 winter/spring season.
These keen swimmers got up in the dark for their last morning practice of 2020 - and the pool was closed due to a power outage. Seems like a fitting conclusion to this challenging year. We’re all looking forward to a brighter 2021. Happy holidays, everyone! (Remember: still a final fun practice left tomorrow afternoon - a chance to say goodbye to Coach Aidan.)
Reminder: HIGH ENERGY Zoom workout on Monday, hosted by coaches Aidan and Tara. Everyone, welcome! You should have received the Zoom link and password via email. If you can't find it, send a FB message and we will forward necessary info. 5pm December 7th. :-) :-) :-)
This week's Dolphins' press is now online. Read the article here: https://www.thefreepress.ca//elk-valley-dolphins-head-coa/
Be sure to check out the Free Press this week for some big news about our club and our super star coaches.
With the holiday season around the corner we have decided to run a fun scavenger hunt over the weekend. Take a photo in front of each point and send the evidence to [email protected]. Everyone who completes a scavenger hunt item will get a EVDSC wrist band, there will also be some lucky door prizes Get outside and enjoy the weekend gang!
We're sad to announce that the pool is temporarily closed to adjust to new BC government rules. Practice is cancelled until further notice. We hope to get back in the pool soon with an updated safety plan. No practice today, Friday, or Saturday. Be well, everyone.
John O’Sullivan’s Changing the Game Project is a great resource for sport parents.
Swimming practice will be ON, as per usual schedule, on Wednesday, November 25. Remember to wear your mask entering and exiting the building. Also wear swim suit as there will be no access to the change rooms. See you in the pool!
