An Open House for the Digital Creator Space is being held on June 29th for the entire community to come out and see what they are doing, and hopefully to bring a few more kids into the space. The Digital Creator Space would also like to encourage teachers and parents to drop in and see what they are about., They are located on the upper level of the Lester B Pearson Civic Centre, in the last room on the left after exiting the stairwell.
Copper Cup is happening! Stop by to purchase a: hamburger, hotdog, frozen yogurt and watch a road hockey game.
Students: the Digital Creator Space is hosting a pizza night tonight from 5:30 until 8pm. It’s free to attend for teens and youth.
Students who are interested in working with children in our community this summer, can visit Employment Options and speak with Christine. She is currently working with 3 different employers who require someone in that field. Christine is also working with an employer who is looking for a student to work outdoors as an Environmental Assistant. Be sure to check the job board for youths at Employment Options at 40 Prince Edward Walk or call and speak with Christine at 858.5119... Don’t forget Christine from Employment Options will have a table in front of the office, on May 17th, 2017 to meet with you and discuss job opportunity.
Algoma District Schoo Board's Parent Involvement Committee is pleased to host: David Bouchard - "How can parents and educators help our children understand Truth and Reconcilliation" David is a Canadian author of over 50 books, Order of Canada Recipient and a former teacher and school administrator for 27 years. He will be focusing on such questions as: What do we share?... When is a child old enough to grasp the significance of Truth and Reconcilliation? How do we tell this story? How can we heal, build positive relationships and move forward together? His talk will be Monday, May 8 at the White Pines Auditorium in Sault Ste. Marie, 7-8pm. Admission is free.
The Special Olympics needs volunteers Saturday, April 22 3:45-6pm at the Elliot Lake Municipal Pool. Students who attend will receive volunteer hours.

Here is a contest for people who are into photography: CONTEST THEME: Health and Safety at work, home or play We want to hear from you! What does Health and Safety mean to you? What does it look like? What are the consequences of not working or playing in a safe manner? DETAILS:... Three winning photographers will be chosen, based on the following categories (1 winner in each category) 1. Best photo in a workplace 2. Best portrayal of personal protective equipment (colour or b&w) 3. Best action shot (colour or b&w) PRIZES: 1. Photos will be displayed at the Partners in Prevention conference on May 10 and 11 at the Quattro Hotel and Conference Centre. 2. Each winner will also receive a $100 gift certificate to a store of their choice. ELIGIBILITY: Contest is open to all high school students in the greater Sault Ste. Marie area. COPYRIGHT: Each entrant retains full and exclusive rights to their submitted work for usage outside the contest promotion. USAGE RIGHTS: Entrants agree to allow ’WSPS’ the right to use their images on their website, or in future marketing promotional materials. Whenever a photo from an entrant is used in the above context, the photographer will be fully credited when the information is published. Any reproduction outside of the competition will occur only after receiving the entrant’s permission. PHOTO REQUIRMENTS, SPECIFICATIONS and TIPS: a. Photos must be submitted digitally, in a high resolution jpg. Format. Please include with your photo(s), the location where the photo was taken, the date it was shot, a brief description of your photo and what the photo means to you regarding health and safety. b. You are permitted to enter a maximum of 3 photos only. c. Choosing your entry (ies) should be based on the tips above and you should always submit your best work.
