We are very excited to announce that EllisDon has been awarded the contract for Phase 2 and 3 of the Royal Columbia Hospital Redevelopment in New Westminster, British Columbia! With a completion date in early 2025, Phase two of the Redevelopment is now underway and will create a new acute care tower with more beds for intensive care, cardiac intensive care, medicine, and surgical patients, primarily in single-patient, private rooms. Additionally, this phase will create a new ...emergency department, medical imaging unit, 25 operating rooms, two radiology suites, an additional CT scanner, maternity operating rooms, a new entrance and a rooftop helipad. During Phase 3, EllisDon will upgrade and expand areas in the existing Health Care Centre and Columbia Tower while work on this phase will begin in 2023, with completion scheduled for 2026. Last night, our very own Craig Enns, Ian Kerr, and Daniel Murphy, took part in the Covenant House Vancouver Sleep Out: Executive Edition! Hosted virtually, participants slept apart but together in solidarity with young people facing homelessness to raise funds for the Covenant House’s Crisis Program. They had the opportunity to hear first-hand from front-line workers as well as the youth who have overcome significant life challenges with the support of the organization. ...It was pretty inspirational to hear their stories about the struggles they faced, the steps they went through to get back on their feet, how the program at Covenant House supported this transition, and how the support continues for a full year after these individuals are back in the community. These youths didn’t have access to the basics of life a place to feel safe, a place to call home, or somewhere to get a warm meal. This experience has taught me how easy it is to take these things for granted, and has helped me recognize how important they are for a person to be able to function, said Ian Kerr, VP Business Development, EllisDon. The Royal Inland Hospital Patient Care Tower has hit a milestone the final concrete pour was completed and the tower has reached its full nine-story height! To commemorate this huge achievement Royal Inland Hospital staff members, stakeholders, funding partners, and EllisDon team members attended a ‘topping off’ ceremony celebrating the installation of one of the final beams of the new Royal Inland Hospital Patient Care Tower. Following all COVID-19 protocols, a smudging ceremony was performed by Tk’emlups te Secwépemc on the beam, and attendees were invited to sign it before it was lifted by crane to be installed by the EllisDon team. #kamloops #construction #royalinlandhospital

After two years at the Keeyask project, I was the successful candidate as a field engineer with EllisDon and joined the Port Lands Flood Protection project. The best part of the job is working with a friendly and experienced group of individuals that I have come to know very well. I also enjoy the unique opportunity to collaborate with many contractors performing various scopes on the Port Lands project. My academic career began at Western University where I completed the Civil Engineering program. Let’s be clear, this is the handiwork of one or two racist criminals, every other worker and leader is appalled at their hatred and cowardice. These individuals are unfortunately comfortable in the knowledge that on a heavily populated and constantly changing construction site, they will be hard to identify. But I want to send a ...clear message: We will not stop until you are found, charged and permanently evicted from our industry. EllisDon is working closely with the Toronto Police Service, and will be using every available tool, including upgrading the security and surveillance on our sites, both to catch these criminals and to ensure that every worker is safe from discrimination, hate and bigotry. We are also reaching out directly to the local community to ensure their concerns are being addressed and to embrace their cooperation. EllisDon acknowledges that systemic racism in the construction industry is real and with our partner unions and subcontractors we have initiated both long and short term measures to root it out wherever it lies, and eliminate it. "When I was in fourth-year University, my Civil Engineering class was tasked with mock design projects- I was paired with EllisDon! I applied in 2015 and earned a role with the Gate Three team. I had never worked in IT, nor did I feel the experience I had catered to this role, but I was thrilled to be working with EllisDon. Looking back, I believe my engineering sk...ills and my personality allowed me to thrive as a young professional." Best part about your job? "In a word, creativity. My Civil Engineering degree prepared me for a role in technology as I learned how to problem-solve creatively. Problems are presented by the business and I am tasked with understanding the problem and developing creative solutions with our team. It’s a unique position to be in!" What’s your career/academic background? I graduated from Queens University in 2014, and traveled for a few months. Once hired at EllisDon, I spent the first few years on the Enterprise Tech Solutions team, working closely with the Operations group. Another LEED Certification! The RBC Centre (formally named Dartmouth Multi-Pad Arena) located in #Dartmouth, Nova Scotia has achieved LEED Silver certification! Our Halifax area team completed the RBC Centre back in 2017 and incorporated a number of sustainable & energy-saving features such as sourcing recycled and regional materials and installing energy and water-efficient equipment. They designed the landscape using plantings and seeds native to the region and encouraged ...alternative forms of transportation with bike racks and designated spaces for carpooling. Overall, the project achieved 35% water use reduction and 45% energy cost savings compared to a "conventionally designed" building which contributed to achieving LEED Silver Certification. The project also reduced 208,000 pounds of Co2 emissions through the use of carbon cure technology! #LEEDcertified #sustainablebuilding

"My friend and coworker Adam Pergentile worked with me a few years ago at Toys R Us. I ran into him a few months back during the COVID lockdown and he asked me if I’d be interested in joining the EllisDon team. Having heard great things about the company, I sent in my resume and officially joined the team soon after."... What’s the best part of your job? "I love the idea of being part of something new. When modular construction takes off, it’s going to be really cool to say that I was involved with the EllisDon Modular team from the beginning!" What’s your career/academic background? "I graduated from high school with a focus on theatre and construction. My work background consists mostly of retail work but I’ve done bits of construction since I could work.
