Happy (almost) New Year! In an attempt to finish the year strong I have entered "2020 Vision" into numerous contests! Here is a little statement about the intent and process of this image: My artwork explores the feelings surrounding being both immersed and estranged; with spaces and oneself. Through my artistic practice I invite viewers to reflect on their own unique relationships with their physicality and perceptions of the various environments they are exposed to. These e...nvironments could be natural, artificial, or imaginative ones. I believed this exploration is of more importance than ever as our surroundings and sense of self-understanding has shifted so violently due to pandemic restrictions. "2020 vision" suggests a space somewhere between psychological and physical, a membrane between the physical world and the imaginative. I often find myself drifting into this sort of divided existence, and made this artwork for others who feel the same way. I show human subjects in my artwork to highlight our literal physicality in relation to these various spaces. This is a staged photograph, my process in making often involves interventions consisting of both digital and physical materials. I constructed a steel frame in the shape of a bubble and took it to a pre-determined location to photograph at dusk during low tide. I later manipulated the resulting image in post-processing.
