The other day a letter arrived at the Legion, inside were these beautiful works of art and a message: So on behalf of Connor MacArthur I share his message and art to all our Veterans and their families as Connor stated your service will not be forgotten.
Greetings All; I hope that everyone enjoyed the holidays even though I’m sure it wasn’t what you are use to. And a most happy New Year to all! Hopefully better times are ahead for everyone! 2020 is behind us but remember COVID is still here and will be for a while yet so we still have restrictions to live by. Our January executive meeting was held tonight (Monday) and the plan for re-opening (again) was decided for this week. We will revisit the hours as government updates ar...e made. See below for this weeks hours. Our capacity is limited to 70 customers with a maximum of 10 in a bubble. Unfortunately VLTs are not permitted to operate at this time. This could change at any time through government updates. On other notes, there will not be a general meeting this month. Hopefully things settle out somewhat with the COVID situation and we can get back to meetings in February. The Early Bird membership deadline is extended to Jan 31st. The draw will take place at the February meeting. This weeks hours will be: Thu 3-8pm Fri 3-8pm Sat 12-6pm Sun Noon-5pm Mon-Closed Drop in, say hi and tell everyone what Santa brought you for Christmas. Ron Ron Cooper President

I, me, Bobbi wanted to connect with our members and followers before the end of 2020. With the restrictions in place for this holiday season as well as the last 10 months the struggle has been real. As adults, it is human nature to not want to be told what to do, as Nova Scotians we grumble a bit but comply. OUR health and safety is paramount. I do not have answers about when the Legion can open or what will take place when we try it again, as an employee, I ca...n tell you that we did not see as many familiar faces I would have liked to have seen. I MISS YOU and I miss the banter. So maybe next year. On behalf of the executives and staff (that includes me) We want to wish you all a Safe and Happy Holidays, Seasons Greetings and Merry Christmas. Wishing you Health and Happiness for 2021. And a big hug from me. As a Legion it is our purpose to support the veterans in our community, call and check up on someone today and any day.
This evening, members of the Royal Family enjoyed Christmas songs played by a Salvation Army band during an event at Windsor Castle to thank local volunteer...s and key workers. The Queen thanked the band for their performance, as well as for the wider work of the Salvation Army during the pandemic and over the Christmas period. Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, The Earl and Countess of Wessex and The Princess Royal welcomed a number of local volunteers and key workers from organisations and charities in Berkshire, who will be volunteering or working to help others over the Christmas period.

We remember Sydney Goodman who passed away December 2, 1998. Syd along with George O'Handley & Ted Vere-Holloway left Halifax aboard the Manchester Commerce fr...om Pier 3 February 18, 1939. Enlisting in the 2nd Battalion Manchester Regiment (M.G.) March 2, 1939, Syd was evacuated from Dunkirk & remained with the Regiment ('B' Company) serving in Burma/India for the remainder of the war returning home in 1946. His older brother Jack is also one of the '100' though he opted for enlistment into the Royal Artillery. Captured in Singapore February 15, 1942 serving with the 9th Coast Regiment RA Jack died of cholera while POW July 3, 1943 Tonchan South Camp (Thailand-Burma Railway). Buried Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, Thailand (6, A,.40) age 28. Their parents, William & Fanny (Heath) Goodman were from Birmingham, England & married in Halifax, NS April 1909 after William transferred from the RGA to the RCGA. The Goodman Family resided at Pavillion Barracks in Halifax until William retired & they moved to Ferguson's Cove in 1934. Sadly William died suddenly January 21, 1935 when Syd was 14 years old. After the war Syd ran his own business for several years later driving tanker trucks that refilled the gas stations throughout the province. He did this until 1980 when he retired and moved to the Lunenburg area. Diagnosed with cancer around 1996 Syd passed away December 2, 1998 age 78. As was his wish he was cremated and he is buried with his father at Fort Massey Cemetery in Halifax. Thank you to the Goodman Family for sharing & adding so much to the '100' story.
Hi All; I am sad to report that we have been mandated by the NS government to close for 2 weeks in accordance with the latest round of COVID-19 restrictions. Elmsdale is now included in the HRM bubble so we are under the same regulations as those in Halifax. We’ll see what happens over the next 2 weeks. Take care and stay safe. Ron Ron Cooper... Subject: Research Study - PTSD in the Canadian Military My name is Brittney and I am a Research Coordinator at the IWK. We are conducting a study on PTSD in the Canadian Military at the IWK. Here is some information for our study:... Canadian veterans and CAF members are needed for a large research study about how exposure to traumatic stress in the military affects the brain. Using state-of-the-art neuroimaging technology we can learn more about how PTSD affects brain function and get more insight on how to treat it. We are looking for 300 Canadian veterans and CAF members between the ages of 19-55 with or without PTSD who have been deployed in military missions. You can also visit our website at: https://www.caf-study.ca/ Thank you, Brittney Brittney Allen | BSc. MSc. Research Coordinator BIOTIC | IWK Health Centre Halifax, NS 902-470-6862 [email protected]
