The Community Freezer has been restocked! We have a fresh batch of chicken soup available. Give East Hants Community Learning & Community Rider a call at 902-883-4716 between 8 AM to 2 PM on weekdays to arrange a time for pick-up or book a free delivery with the Community Rider. We apologize if you went away empty-handed from today's free community lunch. Fish cakes and baked beans was a new recipe for us, and we underestimated the amount of fish we would need. We also had a record number of deliveries, which led to even fewer meals for the drive-thru. In total, we served 129 portions today. In future, we'll do our best to serve up more meals for our community. Thank you to everyone who came out and we hope you'll come to future lunches. Thanks for supporting what we do and we'll have another great lunch for you in two weeks. More details to come soon.

UPDATE: We have reached maximum capacity for deliveries. Drive-thru take out is still available while supplies last. Next Wednesday, March 10th from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., East Hants Family Resource Centre will be holding a FREE spaghetti take out lunch at the Elmsdale Legion Br#48. Hope you can join us!

We've received so much support for this event. From donations big and small to the Government of Canada's Emergency Community Support Fund and Rural Communities Foundation of Nova Scotia, we'll be able to keep these lunches rolling and feed our community for many weeks to come. WOW! East Hants, you like your poutine! As of 12 p.m., we are out! Thanks so much for coming. Sorry if you couldn't get any. Limited supplies, but we make the most of what we get. East Hants Family Resource Centre will be doing the next one on March 10th.

We've got FREE turkey soup to warm you up! It will be on Wednesday, February 10th from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Elmsdale Legion Br#48. Take out or delivery options are available. Take out is first come, first serve in front of the legion. Delivery must be booked by 3 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9th through the East Hants Community Learning & Community Rider: call 902-883-4716 to book your delivery. We recommend you use the drive-thru if you can - this allows us to get lunch to those that need it most more quickly. Donations are always welcome! They help us supplement the food we receive from FoodRescue.ca and offer these meals as frequently as possible. Thanks for all the positive feedback on these - we love to feed our community.

Thank you to folks from EH Painted Rocks for the amazing variety of flowers for our Scavenger Hunt Adventure this weekend. The groups had a wonderful time exploring the garden and trying to find the rock with a clue on the back. Now that the event is passed, drop by Elmsdale Community Garden and help yourself to any of the painted rocks - we'd love to see them go on an adventure of their own. They are on the surface of the garden beds, but you may be digging through the snow for them after tomorrow's storm!

This is free food from the Elmsdale Community Garden - everyone is welcome! Please bring a mask if you have one. We have measures in place to keep everyone safe. Because of Hurricane Teddy, we have rescheduled our Pop Up Market in Fall River. It will be happening this Wednesday, September 30th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St John's United Church Fall River, 3360 Highway 2. Everyone is welcome! Pop up markets provide free food to the community, courtesy of the Elmsdale Community Garden. Every person fed helps us continue to expand our food security programs, so come out and support access to healthy food in your community. Please bring a mask if you have one. We will have a sanitization station, disposable masks and gloves to keep things safe for everyone. Hope you will join us.

It's been a busy week with back to school and the return of routine. With the first week under our belts, how about a pop up market next week? We'll be giving out free produce on Wednesday, September 16th from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Elmsdale Community Garden. This food is for anyone, whether you're a young family, a senior, or simply someone who enjoy local, fresh food. Measures are still in place to keep everyone safe. UPDATE: Tickets for the Harvest Dinner are sold out. Wow - thank you for the amazing participation, everyone! We hope you will enjoy the dinner together with friends and family. It’s been a fantastic season for the Elmsdale Community Garden. To celebrate, we’re holding our 2nd Annual Harvest Dinner over two days: October 15th & 16th, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Because of COVID-19, we’ll be doing things differently, but we hope you will make this event just as special as last year.... The biggest change is making this a drive-thru and pick-up style event. Tickets are assigned in 15 minute intervals. You will pull into our driveway and be directed to the drive-thru to pick up your meals. Tickets are $5 per person. Pop up markets are for everyone, with free produce from the Elmsdale Community Garden for the community.
