Today, March 11, marks the first National Day of Observance for COVID-19. We want to take this moment to thank the frontline workers for all that they do, our Health and Safety team for ensuring a safe school environment for our staff and students, and our community for their ongoing support.
Today, during our weekly assembly, the Elmwood community PROUDLY celebrated identity and acceptance with the raising of the PRIDE flag in our beautiful bright Atrium. A symbol of our collective commitment to diversity and inclusion, the flag-raising was organized by Elmwood's Sexuality and Gender Alliance Club (SAGA). The goal of Elmwood's SAGA club is to create a safe space for EVERYONE to learn, support, and normalize conversations surrounding sexuality, gender, and life.... The rainbow flag is a symbol of LGBTQ+ pride and LGBTQ+ social movements. The colours reflect the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community.
At the end of day yesterday, students and staff received a yellow rose in honour of International Women’s Day, to celebrate and recognize the achievements of women and girls internationally.

On National Philanthropy Day we would like to thank YOU, and every member of the Elmwood community, for your generous support this past year. Whether you donated to the Elmwood Fund, participated in the Alumnae House Challenge, or made a contribution to a specific initiative, your support has made an impact. Together, you are helping inspire each girl to reach her full potential and realizing her dreams. THANK YOU!
Yesterday afternoon our Gr. 11 Chemistry students were exploring the shapes of molecules using marshmallows and spaghetti. VSEPR theory tells us that chemical bonds will orient themselves as far apart as possible in a molecule because the shared pair of electrons repel one another. How far apart can bonds get in 3-dimensions when there are 2, 3 or 4 shared pairs? The answers aren't always as easy as they seem!
Join us on Wednesday, November 18 at 7 p.m. for our Experts@Elmwood event: Supporting our Daughters through Anxiety and Loss during COVID-19. Presented by Elmwood parent and alumnae Dr. Meredith Gillespie, C.Psych, this webinar will provide Middle and Senior School parents with insight and information on how to support their daughters and enhance their coping skills through this unprecedented time. While focusing primarily on anxiety within the teenage yearswhat it is, wha...t it looks like, how it grows and how it may be amplified by stresses related to COVID-19Dr. Gillespie will also discuss concepts of grief and loss to help parents better understand what teens are facing in their everyday lives. In keeping with our understanding of anxiety, grief and loss, and resilience, the session will provide practical strategies and parenting tools. Dr. Gillespie is a clinical psychologist in private practice and with Boomerang Health (a clinic affiliated with SickKids). She earned her doctorate in School/Applied Child psychology from McGill University, as well as a Master’s of Arts (Educational Psychology) from McGill University and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Queen’s University.
