"In Her Garden" Cross stitch - Framed

Elsie's Framing Studio 20.12.2020

Framed needlework by Elsie's Framing Studio

Elsie's Framing Studio 28.09.2020

The needlework was originally framed about thirty years ago. I recently reframed the picture with a triple mat. The frame was updated from a traditional oak to one with a more contemporary profile that is stained a traditional walnut. I think the end result is a look that is fresh and current.

Frame your old photographs. Older photographs hold a mysterious charm. It’s the link they offer to another time and place.

Traditional picture frames are frequently used to frame works on canvas but there are also floater frames made specifically for canvas. The decision to use a traditional or a floater frame depends on what you like or want. If the artist's signature is covered by the lip of a tradition frame, use a floater frame. If the painting is not square it will be very noticeable when using a floater frame.... Traditional frames have a lip that fits on top of the painting to keep the canvas secure. This lip covers approximately 1/4 inch of the painting's surface. The edges are completely hidden within the frame. Floater frames attached to the backside of a stretched canvas. The entire surface of the painting as well as the edges is visible. The canvas appears to float within the frame.

Some great wall art...paintings by Canada's Group of Seven...and one from the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican City (Jeremiah)! Matted by Elsie's Framing Studio. Come to the Art Mart on Saturday, March 30th!

Mats serve two purposes; they raise the glass away from the art, giving it space to breathe; they also draw your eye to certain aspects of the art, depending on the colour of mat chosen. There’s no one right way to frame a piece of art, it just depends on what you want the focal point to be. At Elsie's Framing Studio my aim is to provide you with the best value in picture framing and with the highest quality work possible.

The original canvas painting measured 59 x 80. My client had me cut the painting in half lengthwise. I stretched and gallery wrapped the pieces onto two deep wood stretcher bars. The final measurement for each was 27 x 67.

These paintings were float mounted onto black mats and spacers were added to create dimension. Float mounting allows the rough torn edges of the water colour paper to be seen. The bisque colour upper mats and dark charcoal wood frames complete the pieces.

My customer wanted to display the arrowheads collected over 60 years ago by his father on their southern Saskatchewan farm. No adhesives were used on the arrowheads which are stitched unto suede matting.

This needlework was brought in for re-stretching. My client informed me that it looked great when she first had it done several years ago. I found that there were several improper methods used when it was originally stretched and mounted. At Elsie’s Framing Studio your needlework is handled with care and the work is meant to last. I guarantee that your needlework will be securely mounted with proper conservation techniques and acid free materials. Stitchery and needlework often becomes a family heirloom so having the job done correctly from the beginning will preserve it for future generations.
