The times when children are the most responsive and happy are when they are most connected with their parents Everything from getting down on their eye level, physical touch, and committed attention makes a big difference When it comes to fostering self-discipline and self-esteem, children need CONNECTION more than anything else! ... So, what can you do to build a stronger connection with your child? We suggest at least 10-minutes of ‘connect’ time each day! During this time, your child needs to have your FULL attention and FULL engagement And the best way to do that is through PLAY! Here’s the deal: If you really want to connect with your child, then it’s not enough to take him or her to the playground and watch from the sidelines, you need to play too! Taking the time to play with kids really shows them you love them more than anything else you can do or say! Now, I know what some of you busy parents are thinking: I’m just too busy to play each day. I understand, but the benefits of carving out just 10-minutes a day far outweigh the negatives! Remember, the QUALITY of time you spend connecting with your child during play can make a big difference, so be sure the time is in fact 100% of your FULL attention and FULL engagement! I also recommend you let your child take the lead and join their ‘world’ by letting them decide the activities and pace. (This includes teens too!) So, give it a try this week, and next week be on the lookout for a Parent Tips worksheet where I include a list of simple, yet playful activities to build an even BIGGER connection with your child! . . https://martialartsportcoquitlam.com . . #EMA #ChildDevelopment #childcare #Connection #Parenting #ParentingTips #MartialArts #MartialArtsKids #PortCoquitlam #kids

"We Teach the Way Kids Learn" is not what you are used to hearing when you call a martial arts school! You will hear this when you call the local Child Development Center! If you want to improve your financial habits, but your unsure of how to do that, then you are limited in financial success. At the same time, if you seek advice, or take a first step like setting up a savings account, and then add $10 per week to get started, then you will start to believe in your own financial savviness. It doesn't have to be big steps, it just has to be a step...... But in order to take a step, you must get rid of self-limiting beliefs. This goes for better eating habits, learning, organizing, etc. Ask yourself: am I holding myself back? If so, pick a topic, believe in yourself, and take small steps daily until it becomes a habit.

Interactive Play Encourages Thinking. Kids in our Mini Heros program learn mostly by interacting with their environments. They touch, feel, sniff, stack, and knock down. They are developing their understanding of cause and effect. Sometimes, adults try to speed up this developmental step by offering tutorial advice: "Do it this way!" or maybe "Let me show you how." ... However, by asking questions instead of making statements, we can turn this into an opportunity to help kids develop more complex thought patterns. Keep in mind that kids at this young age don't have many language skills, so we will have to show them. How many ways can we build a tower? How high can we get it? Is it more fun to knock over 2 blocks or 5? Which colors are we using? Remember, they may not have the impulse control that we adults do, so expect to have FUN knocking the tower over again and again :) Kids are natural scientists, and it is our job to guide them in their discovery while letting them guide us in their play. . https://martialartsportcoquitlam.com/ . . #Toddlers #MommyAndMe #ChildDevelopment #MiniHeros #BrainDevelopment #ExcelMartialArts #PortCoquitlam #Poco #DaddyAndMe #Thinking

Learning is a process. If the child or student could already do what we ask them to do, they wouldn't need us. Remember that the path to success IS through failure. Embrace the journey.

Help Your Toddler Stay A Step Ahead! Toddlers make some big strides when it comes to their gait. They transition from the bouncy controlled fall we associate with a running toddler to the more even mechanics of the smoother walk we see in older children. The Stepping skill helps our littlest ninjas develop the physical strength, spatial awareness, and emotional regulation to move smoothly while following instructions.... By adding in language skills such as counting and color recognition, kids get an extra boost of intellectual awesomeness. And the icing on the cake is the bonding time they spend with their caregivers as they participate in class. https://martialartsportcoquitlam.com/ #Stepping #Gait #Toddlers #Language #Parenting #MommyAndMe #miniheros #Oxytocin #ChildDevelopment

Give Kids A Giant Leap Forward! While lessons, curriculum, and teaching methodologies are all important parts of learning, kids between the ages of 3 and 4 learn even more through their interactions with their environment. They have already developed a strong sense of cause and effect, but they don't always understand how those concepts determine outcomes, and don't always have the neurological tools to process all of the information. When Ken is hopping, he is certainly deve...loping his lower body and core muscles. However, there's more: - He is learning about momentum - He is developing depth perception and visual acuity - He is gaining confidence while challenging limits - He is developing empathy as he encourages his peers - He is learning to follow multiple step commands All of this, just from hopping over some pads? Yes! And that's just the beginning. Every hop he takes is a huge leap forward toward his next developmental milestones. . https://martialartsportcoquitlam.com/ See more

The SKILLZ Zone The Sweet Spot for Learning We’ve all set goals, to some degree, throughout our lives. Some were easily achieved while others we just gave up on completing. This is because most plans are either set in the comfort zone or the danger zone. And while our initial motivation generally puts on a path to setting lofty goals, it can lead us to failure. Finding a balance between these two zones is critical in increasing productivity and avoiding stagnation. The SKILL...Z zone is the optimal place to do this. By teaching children this early on, we can ensure that they have the necessary tools for consistent future successes. *This photo was taken pre-Covid* Lose with dignity, win with grace! Kids between the ages of 10 to 14 years old rely very heavily on the perceived opinions of their peers. It is important for them to look good in their friend's eyes. Because of this, they often avoid the spotlight. ... On one hand, they do not want to be seen failing or doing something "uncool." On the other hand, they also do not want too much praise as this also brings unwanted attention. This can lead to a sort of "initiative paralysis" that adults often mistake as laziness or apathy. By teaching kids about success and failure from an early age, we help them have a clear vision of who they are, independent of outside influence, and empower them with a positive mindset that teaches that failure is not the opposite of success, but a part of it. Each of our students have been challenged in class, and have faced setbacks. But, they persevere because they know that they are surrounded by people who want to see them succeed. When they lose, they know they can focus on how to do better next time. When they win, they use that success to lead their peers in a similar direction. This doesn't happen by accident. It is a combination of awesome parents setting great examples, well-trained teachers guiding them in development, and plenty of opportunities for them to practice both winning and losing. . https://martialartsportcoquitlam.com/ . . #Success #Failure #Parenting #ChildDevelopment #EMA #ExcelMartialArts #PeerPressure #Leadership
