Alternatively, if you're already comfortable with the techniques and 3 main battles going on between top & bottom guard (*with striking!), and would like to help others improve faster as well, you will appreciate our detailed, structured, and principle-based approach. Grappling dummies are, well... dumb. I was frustrated with the available options on the markethow come no one has ever designed a grappling dummy in an ACTUAL GRAPPLING POSITION?! So, since nobody was doing it, I set out on a mission to create the very FIRST intelligent grappling training tool! About 4 months later, after much market research, design, R&D, as well as trial & error, I’m super excited to announce we’ve finally begun production on the SMARTY!... If you’re interested in growing your skills faster while training at home, if you can recognize a great idea when you see one, and if you appreciate meticulous attention to detail... You’ll love this product. But that’s not all, to reward YOU as an action-taker, and to help us ramp up production fast and dominate the market, we’re currently offering a 30% DISCOUNT on the FIRST 10 UNITS ONLY! So NOW you can get it today for only $278+tx! First come, first served! What’s more, it comes pre-filled with premium recycled fabric, and if you come pick it up, you’ll pay nothing for shipping! Have you ever considered what the future could look like for the martial arts industry? In this great interview we just shared on our YouTube channel, I've had the pleasure of discussing with another "reformed" traditional martial artist, Rokas Leonavicius, who spend over a decade in Aikido before eventually transitioning to MMA. His YouTube channel, Martial Arts Journey currently has over 142k subscribers! Check it out right here: ... https://youtu.be/Y7SlbvjJSho Hope you enjoy, and please don't hesitate to comment! Traditional breakfalls are stupid. I learned them the same way as everybody else (slapping the floor with one or both arms), as this seems to be one of those basics moves taught accross the world in BJJ and many other martial arts. But when was the last time you saw anyone fall like that in a high level fight? Have you ever? . Of course not. Because you need your hands for other tasks when engaged with an opponent, and there are also a myriad of BETTER answers you should opt ...for instead of going to your back. That being said, there is a purpose to the breakfall, and there is a more intelligent way to practice it as previewed towards the end of this video. . You can find a detailed explanation and many variations for complete beginners all the way to advanced in our YouTube video here: . How to FALL Safely & Effectively - Wrestling Basics for MMA https://youtu.be/8dQf8UAJgbA . Working on these drills in virtual class this week! . We were ready for this. Following recent government decree, and with the goal of slowing this second wave of COVID-19 infections, we will NOT be offering any in-person training options for students as of this Thursday, October 8th, until at least October 28th. Classes will be given as usual today Tuesday and tomorrow Wednesday before the new restrictions take effect. We will, however, continue to offer high-quality virtual instruction on the Zoom platform for our students (...following the same class schedule as previously) to make sure we all keep working towards our fitness and martial arts goals! We've said it before, and we'll say it again, our success in life and in martial arts is determined not when things are easy and go our way, but rather when we are faced with challenges and must rise to the occasion. Therefore, we encourage all our students to keep on attending classes on Zoom, keep studying the videos on YouTube.com/EffectiveMartialArts to be ahead of class Curriculum, and keep working hard to be in better shape, gather more knowledge, and become more Effective Martial Artists! To this end, we would like to congratulate all our students who have kept up their training during these unprecedented times, and express our deep gratitude for your ongoing support and trust. It's a privilege to be able to help you in your martial arts journey, and come what may, we are still just getting started. Really excited about all the good stuff we have planned for you in virtual EMA class. Looking forward to seeing you on Zoom! You may or may not know that up until last year, our school's name used to be "Kung Fu West Island". Why did we change it to "Effective Martial Arts"? I quit Kung Fu 7 years ago. In all honesty, that was one of the best decisions I have made for my progression as a martial artist and my career as a professional. Times are changing. The industry is evolving. It's time for us all to have an open, candid discussion on the strength and weaknesses of the different martial arts, a...nd we should be able to do so respectfully, in a spirit of understanding and collaboration. Whenever the subject of TMA (traditional martial arts) vs MMA is brought up, I see most people go wrong one of two ways. Either (1) they get emotional, and the debate degenerates rapidly into personal insults. Nothing ever comes of these debates; both parties just come out more convinced of their beliefs, with the added result of now hating those who espouse the opposing point of view. Or (2), in a desire to avoid this type of conflict, or perhaps out of a genuine lack of education or discernment, people adopt an overly egalitarian approach and refuse to discuss the objective validity of any martial art over any other. This is why we hear statements like "there's something to learn in every martial art", or "there's an art for everyone" or my favorite, "it's not the art, it's the teacher/practitioner". While not entirely false, these statements are misleading, and they can potentially make it more difficult for neophytes to make informed decisions about their martial arts education. I think it is possible to discuss the objective merits of different martial arts styles rationally, while still showing respect for those who hold an opposing point of view. That's what I tried to do in my latest video right here: Why I Quit Kung FuTMA (& Created EMA) https://youtu.be/A0fhgtVs0oo Check it out, and please let me know your thoughts! Respect Patrick Fulop

We are very happy to announce that, following recent government decree, we are now allowing partner drilling and sparring in our classes! . Partner practice will remain optional, as classes will always include a solo option for students who prefer to minimize contacts. We will also continue to broadcast the classes on Zoom simultaneously, so our students who enjoy training from home may keep on improving fast! . We will also limit partner training to groups of 4 , and ...encourage students to avoid contacts outside their training group. All other procedures remain in place to ensure optimal safety for our students and their families: frequent sanitation , hand disinfecting , social distancing , and recommended use of the face mask . . In any case, whatever the circumstances, we will keep on doing everything in our power to help our students progress optimally! . Limited spots available in person, so contact us now if you know anyone who would like to join! . See you soon on the mat, or on Zoom! . Practice well .
