Many years ago, I had the opportunity to spend 4 months as a homeless person. This actually means that I was relegated to residing in a tiny little 19 foot moto...r home with no TV and very few other amenities while anxiously awaiting the completion of construction of my house at Buffalo Lake. This was shortly after I had suffered a tragic loss and learning to deal with the grief process was not easy. It was a crispy late fall evening in 1994 that I found myself with nothing to do but bundle up in front of the camp fire, staring into the flames, wondering why such terrible, shocking things happen to people who are not in the least prepared for them. After the tears had leaked slowly down into my scarf, turning it to ice, it occurred to me that I should find a warmer domicile. Lying in the bunk for more endless, sleepless hours, staring at the stars through the tiny camper window became my primary activity. Eventually, I became aware that the stars were not alone. Some mystical being had turned on the lights in the pitch black night sky! I watched, ever more fascinated, as they appeared brighter and brighter, in every shape and colour of the rainbow, and danced softly and slowly across my line of vision. This was my sign. While walking along a shaded forest pathway,I was pleasantly surprised to discover a beautiful sunny meadow clearing, ablaze with the most lovely abundance of these beauties. The calm, the peaceful still air, the warmth of the sun, the only sound was from the crickets and buzzing things - It was all there, everything needed to replenish the soul. Sometimes we all need to escape reality, all the stresses and daily disasters that happen in life, and just float away into a mystical sanctuary where none of these things matter. These emotions were running high at the time this dreamland was created. It’s a place of warmth, beauty, safety and serenity. Couldn’t we all use a wonderful sanctuary like this?
