Thankful to the clients that decided to hang on and wait for me to get better! A couple weeks ago, I had a bad slip and fall and had to cancel all my scheduled shoots. Many wanted refunds but some waited patiently for me to get better. I’m so glad they did, because these galleries ARE GORGEOUS! Perfect weather, light and Christmas magic showed up for me on Sunday. Ahhh this girl Ally was my assistant these last couple months, helping me with Say It with Stacey She was a fast learner, always happy, always aiming to please. We talked a lot while working and she saw the 'behind the scenes chaos' in the studio where I make all the magic happen; and she never judged me I'd look forward to her smiling face every day; and even my dogs looked forward to her arrival. It is with mixed feelings that I announce her resignation as she has acc...epted a permanent full time position in her field of study starting in January. I knew it was coming because she asked if I could be a reference, and no joke, after I was done singing Ally's praises, I said, "You'd be incredibly lucky to get Ally, and you better treat her well, cause employment is a two way street". I know that was kind of ballsy to say, but after 25 years of working for others, I discovered that revelation on my own. I had experienced the full spectrum of bosses. I had two really, bad, horrible abusive bosses, but thankfully ended my career with the best boss ever." It is my hope that I mentored Ally and passed along some lessons she can take with her, even if our time together was short. I gifted Ally an Embrace Photography photoshoot for her birthday, as I know she is a photo fanatic like me <3 This is one of my favs from today's session. Thanks Ally for all of your hard work! When I start to develop a photography relationship with clients, I find that photos get better year over year as the comfort & trust builds between us. It's just more comfortable, and I really feel that working year over year in particular with kids, boys and husbands. And most definitely with women's head shot photography. It's the same thing like loyalty between you and your hair dresser. When you skip around, you don't always get this same results, and the long-term tr...ust doesn't get a chance to build. This is how I felt about this session. Last year, it was the first time photographing Shannon's and her adorable man crew. I could feel the vibe had changed this year and that the boys were a little more comfortable. So when you have that photographer-client connection year over year, it feels more natural and therefore, the photos feel and look that way too. However, sometimes you need to find your ideal photographer, and I feel that way about clients. Not every photographer is for you, just like not every client is for me. But I will say, when someone chooses me, its my chance to try and build that with my client, so that they feel good about coming back.
