This Thursday, April 8th @6pm, #OutOfIsolation Survivors’ Meet Up will be focused on Grounding! Grounding techniques can be used for managing our body’s responses to stressors whether they be from everyday occurrences or intense feelings related to trauma. Grounding can also give our mind something to focus on when we have intrusive thoughts and memories that make us feel uneasy. Often grounding can include focusing on our body, our senses, or our environment and overall enc...ourages us to be in the present moment; some examples of grounding can be breathing and visualization exercises. Sometimes our emotions are heightened and senses are overwhelmed, and because of this, we may feel a need to disconnect from our body/ disconnect happens unintentionally as a means of self protection and safety. Grounding can be a way to reconnect at our own pace. Join us to learn more about grounding and to practice some techniques. If you would like to join group or if you have any questions or concerns please contact [email protected] or text/call 416-476-3270 #SupportGroup #SafeSpace #Support #OutOfIsolation #Grounding #GroundingTechniques #TraumaResponse #Breathing #MindAndBody #Trauma #TraumaInformed #Triggers #Coping #PeerSupport #ConsentMatters #Healing #SupportSurvivors #WeBelieveSurvivors #BelieveSurvivors #EndGBV #Resilience #YouAreNotAlone #VirtualMeetup #Feminism #Intersectionality #NoMeansNo #YesMeansYes #NoExcuseForAbuse #PeelRegion #EndRapeCulture #GTA #YourVoiceMatters

Up to 90% of those who have been incarcerated in Canada have experienced historical and ongoing violence. Embracing Brave: A Tale of Survival is a short film based on a true story about a woman who experienced criminalization and was incarcerated in Ontario. Through her story we shed light on the overrepresentation of Indigenous women in Canadian prisons that is a result of colonialism.... This short film aims to amplify the voices of survivors of violence who are incarcerated and create awareness on the stigma faced by these survivors. It is our hope that this story will inspire others to unlearn some of the beliefs that are held about survivors who experience criminalization. This short film was produced in collaboration with Fela, directed by the incredibly talented up-and-coming director Kimberly Veitch, and stars the phenomenal Actor Ellyn Jade. Featuring the first live screening of Embracing Brave: A Tale of Survival , a short film inspired by the true story of a participant in Embrave’s ‘On Our Own’ Peer Program for survivors of violence incarcerated in Ontario.
