COVID 19 UPDATE Veterinary Services has been deemed an Essential Service by the Government of Alberta. ETVS will continue to operate and I am still available for livestock emergencies. As there is already a shortage of veterinarians in the Peace Country we are requesting clients to be mindful of our current situation. ... 1. If you or anyone in your household is sick please re-schedule your appointment 2. While I am on farm, have the least amount of help required (ie. Lets avoid 5 people watching while doing a C-section) 3. Medication pick-ups are still available. Supplies will be left in a box outside for pick-up. While I may not shake your hand or come in for coffee at the moment, I look forward to continuing to serve our community and clients. I will take you up on your offer for lunch down the road! Thank you for your understanding.

Calving season is either in full swing or soon approaching! ETVS is available for calving emergencies on-farm. Here are a few important tips and information to have when contacting a vet: 1. How long has the animal been calving? Once active labour has started we expect progress every hour for a cow and every 2 hours for a heifer... 2. Palpate the cow vaginally, what can you feel? Is the cervix dilated? Front or back legs? Can you feel a head or tail? Size of calf compared to the pelvis of the cow? 3. Cleanliness is next to Godliness! Use clean gloves and antiseptic prior to every palpation to avoid contamination For ANY emergency please LEAVE A MESSAGE! If I am pulling a calf, testing bulls, or maybe even sleeping I often am not able to answer immediately. I will return your call as soon as possible. As a solo mobile vet I cover a large territory; if I am pulling a calf in Elmworth it might be a while until I can make it to Teepee Creek. In some cases, you will need to contact another veterinarian. As a solo vet I also need to take some days off work. The voicemail will notify you on days that I am not taking call. If the voicemail accepts messages than I am available for after-hour emergencies. We wish you the best during this calving season!

Important Update to ETVS Services: It has been a great first year for us at ETVS, and we have many great communities and producers to thank for welcoming us into the area! There are some great vets in this area that can help you with all of your other equine needs. ... We are excited to focus our attention on the needs of the many livestock producers in the Peace County! Pregnancy testing is closer than you think, contact us to book for the upcoming season!

Vaccines and vaccine protocols are a passion of mine. It is always a good time to start discussing and planning your herd's vaccine program. Take a look at this article that outlines a few important tips. 1. Proper storage - Don't store in the fridge door 2. Cleaning syringes - Only warm clean water. Soaps can leave residues that interact with the vaccine 3. Modified Live Vaccines - Only mix what you need as they begin to degrade after 2 hours... 4. Vaccinate in the right location - Give according to label directions either into the muscle or under the skin in the neck 5. Give us a call to discuss your vaccine program and schedule! http://www.beefresearch.ca//tips-to-make-the-most-of-you/
