It's time for 2021's Kidney Foundation of Canada fundraiser!! My good friend Lacey is in need of a kidney transplant so we are once again "Keepin it Renal" by raising awareness and funds for the Kidney Foundation of Canada! This cause is obviously near and dear to our hearts, so we are doing some super fun things! Check out our team page here to learn more about the other awesome fundraising activities happening: https://www.facebook.com/groups/keepinitrenal0/?ref=share... Last year, I raised funds by doing custom chalk drawings on people's sidewalks; together, our team's efforts raised over $1200!! This year, I will be offering CUSTOM DIGITAL ART DOODLES. The best part? You can watch me complete your piece of art from start to finish, via Zoom!! Each custom doodle costs $20 and must fit into one of two categories: pets or people. ----------- To participate, please follow these steps: 1. Email [email protected] with: a jpg of the picture you'd like drawn the full name you will be donating under 2. Submit your $20 donation for the Kidney Foundation on our team page: https://kidney.akaraisin.com/ui/SKKW21/t/keepinitrenal2021 3. Stay tuned. I will email and post a schedule of what day/time everyone's sketches will be drawn. I'll also include instructions on how to pop in and attend the ZOOM meeting. Even if you aren't participating or donating, I will make sure to post the ZOOM meeting info on my page, so anyone can come hang out, visit, and watch the doodles being made! 4. Attend! Watch your image come to life, live on ZOOM! When finished, I will email you a jpg of the final sketch. Let's raise some money for a great cause and make some art

Happy Easter weekend

Emilia's Art 21.04.2021

Hello art fam . Hope you're all keeping well! Made this digital doodle in bed - nothing quite tires me out like the relentless pursuit to get over the "ugly phase" in a new technique! My left arm is asleep, butt is sore, and eyes are dry - really lost myself in the moment! . Played around with the watercolour brush on my app tonight - one of the hardest I've found to work with. My acrylic self is much more comfortable layering completely opaque layers.... But once I allo...wed myself some grace and added some accents of black and white line art, it started to come around and feel like "mine"! . Sending big hugs to you all - hoping you're staying safe! A laugh for your Saturday evening!

Emilia's Art 12.04.2021

"hello little human" . Got carried away today and made my first art piece deliberately about pregnancy, baby, and everything that comes with it. I still haven't set up a space for my paint supplies, so this app is getting a run for its money! (Loljk - it was free) . Hard to put into words what this piece means to me. So much. Some things that come to mind:... . the immense honour I feel with getting to grow, know, and raise a little stranger the juxtaposition of being part of something so big and yet soooo small feeling surreal, full of colour, life, and brightness with all the changes that are happening having a sense of calm and contentness amidst all the change being so centered and focused on me, Sebastian, and our family - seems like nothing else matters some days the awe of watching my body change and grow, knowing what to do as I sit back and watch the joy I feel, joining a community of mothers (especially having so many amazing ones in my art family! Have also painted so many of your own babies and families!) . What comes to mind for you? See more

Happy Friday, art fam! Just popping on to say hello . How is your weekend? Staying home and staying safe? I hope you are taking good care of yourself! . I was feeling a little sad this evening, facing a Friday that doesn't consist of staying up until 3 am, drinking wine, and working away on a huge list of commissions, like they used to. Even before the pandemic, that was typically how you'd find me spending a weekend! ... . Art has been such a huge part of my life for years now, and it likely always will be, but it's making room for other important things now too I will likely spend tonight putting my swollen feet up, reading, and going to bed by 9. . Thank you for continuing to follow my page and for all the sweet messages and comments. I am happy to have built this little community and happy to have you along for this journey. Exciting to see what kind of new art inspiration comes from all these changes! . Sending you all big hugs and wishing you the best with whatever the upcoming evening and weekend holds for you! . P.S. We are 24 weeks now and past the halfway mark!! Feeling better than ever, too. See more

Another digital doodle swipe to see progress pics! . I'm aching to paint again, with real brushes and canvas! Will likely have to set up a small temporary studio as we finish our renovations. I'm thinking - something bright and flowery, with lots of summer colours!

If I painted timelapses of fireflies, I wouldn't even need to add my dots! They're already so magical!

Thank you 2020 . You were a rough year but you still held a lot of promise and growth. I had to add a few extra photos to my Top 9 grid. The first 9 are the most liked photos of 2020 - and they're definitey capturing some of the biggest moments! . I created SO many large paintings this year - something that I started working towards in 2019. This year's partnership with @harbourlandingvillage has been an especially sunshiney part of the year. Most of my remaining originals... from 2019 and some popular prints are hanging in the hallways for residents to enjoy. Multiple main rooms are adorned with custom pieces to capture the essence and joy of each space. To top it all of, we had livestreamed painting classes and paint parties since we couldn't enjoy each other's company in person. I'm so thankful to be part of their community . During lockdown, I felt the need to branch out even further and attempted to embellish paintings with embroidery. This has become one of my favourite things now and was even requested on some of your commissions! . Redbubble started offering masks this year so we were able to wear some Emilia's Art swag around town my redbubble masks are still some of my favourites - they're so soft . Sebastian wow'd me again this year by helping me renovate and reorganize my studio. It felt like a whole new space and came just in time, as I moved to work from home only one week later and needed the space for work! . In addition, this year was record breaking for commissions. This year I had over 89 custom orders (and even more paintings, since some orders had multiple pieces)!! thank you for all of your support and for trusting me to create such special pieces. . Finally, this year ended with a commission freeze and me taking some time off. 2020 was very draining. As we got into fall, I found it harder and harder to sit down and break out the paints. Experimenting with digital art (like the one pictured) helped me explore and play while reserving some energy, but I've needed this time to focus on getting by. I love and appreciate the support I've received from all of you as I rest and refocus . Here's to 2021! See more

Hope you've all had a restful weekend this holiday season, however you celebrated . This season can be difficult for so many and my heart goes out to all my angel families who have a spare chair at their table this year Sending you a big hug - you are not alone! . Sebastian and I delivered our Christmas presents on Christmas Eve and I dressed up as Santa! He worked the day of, so I spent it eating, napping, cuddling pets, and calling family - Happy to do my part and stay home!

Emilia's Art 27.06.2020

Being part of the @harbourlandingvillage family has been such a bright part of my career and life these last few years the staff, the residents, the kids, the community.... have all been amazing. Here's our story: . I first reached out to HLV to get more experience teaching painting. I didn't want to teach official art classes, just have fun with people who want to try it out! I'd hosted a painting event at my house and thought HLV would have a great community to work with...! I sure was right! It's been a dream ever since. . We've done paintings on wood blocks, ornaments, and canvases of all sizes. We've had romantic date night paintings, reflective Fall paintings, and nights where only my family members came (hahaha those were mostly in the beginning)! Now it feels like home every time I go there. I never want to leave! . To my astonishment, last winter, the president and CEO @totalder organized a meeting to meet and look at some of my original creations. After a tour of some blank wall spaces in the residents' hallways, he said, "we'll take all of them." . PLUS (and yes, I sort of blacked out at this point) they wanted custom Emilia's Art pieces hung throughout the building. . If you swipe through the photos, you'll see four of the six BIG creations I've made for the Village. They each accent a different area. . In the last few years, I've also re-designed the coffee shop's chalk menus, taught a paint class to the childcare centre, recorded paint lessons for the residents to review at their own pace once COVID hit, and live streamed a few paint classes to the residents to maintain physical distancing! . When I say it's been a dream, I really mean a dream. I can't believe what started out as an email saying "Hi, I want to work with you. Here's my plan..." has turned into one of my biggest success stories. Not only have I had the chance to grow my portfolio, my skills, and my experience teaching art, I've also met some amazing people who never fail to make me happy. Thank you for welcoming me to the family, HLV! See more

Best wishes to all of the families working in schools, sending kids to school, and keeping kids home from school, and so on, this week! You've got this! . P.S. if you have a garden and want to share some cool harvest pictures, I'm in a mood to paint some produce!

Emilia's Art 06.03.2020

Swipe to see the entire piece. . The last few months have been hard to feel inspired. I always used to paint when I'm happy, feeling productive, and want to relax and enjoy some podcasts or shows. I've had to revisit this concept and adjust it, since I haven't had many carefree, laidback, inspired, evenings recently. . I can't tell yet if it's made any changes in my art, but it's definitely increased my work ethic. I felt like giving up during most of this piece. Everything... felt (and therefore looked - artist logic right there hahaha) completely wrong. . I kept adding more embroidery, adding more variety, adding more blue, adding more flowers, adding more layers... and it never felt right. . Eventually I stopped trying to make it into the vision I had in my head and instead worked with what was already on the canvas. If a blade of grass was too multicoloured from 6 different attempts to "get it right", I chose to simplify it by making it one solid colour. If I wanted more periwinkle simply because it was a new tube of paint I liked, even though it wasn't in my vision, that got a spot too. If it had too much green, even though I wasnted it to be a summery garden piece, I convinced myself that blue skies are summery too and will be just fine. . It's only now, that I'm finally showing the painting to y'all, that I'm realizing what an educational work of love and dedication it was. I refused to give up on it - or myself! . Whoever ends up with this piece, I hope it serves you as a reminder to never give up on yourself - but - DO give up on some things! Give up if you are stressing over minor details. Give up if your "vision" of how things should go, just isn't practical right now. Give up if you should be patient and wait, rather than act. Give up if you need to rest. . {This piece is available at our online craft sale Sept 11th} See more

Family portrait commissions for a tradition of Christmas in August . What unique traditions does your family have?

Emilia's Art 12.02.2020

Does anyone else have a bucket of back-up presents? So that when you find items that look fun, interesting, unique, or on sale, you can get them without any idea of who to gift them to? And then when Christmas, birthdays, or events come around, you can shop in your present bin first, to see if you already have something super awesome and unique to give them that they'd love, without having the time crunch? ..... No? Just me? Cool.
