Yesterday, our daughter Kate had a post-operative follow up for her ankle at BC Children's Hospital. Her friend Isaac was also at Children's for appointments th...is week as he experienced his journey there for most of last year. We're so thankful that he is doing well and even had his port for chemotherapy removed today! Our visit yesterday shows how all of our kids can benefit from this amazing hospital. In fact, our fellow Realtor Emily Kawaguchi - Remax Coast Mountains Prince Rupert is there as I type this, because her daughter Cassidy had knee surgery today. It's pretty cool that RE/MAX Coast Mountains donates a portion of every sale to Children's Hospital because they are such a worthy recipient. Kids from all over BC benefit. See more

Big announcement folks! We've been awarded $7.1 million dollars for Phase 2 of our waterworks project, which is to replace the 100 year old dam! As you may rec...all, we just issued a $6.9 million dollar contract to begin construction of Phase 1 beginning this year. Now we have secured funding for Phase 2 which is fantastic news for the community! CITY RECEIVES $7 MILLION IN GRANTS TO REPLACE 100 YEAR OLD DAM PRINCE RUPERT, BC -- The City of Prince Rupert is pleased to announce that Prince Rupert has been awarded Federal and Provincial funding to replace the 100 year old Woodworth dam through the Canadian Water and Wastewater Fund (CWWF). This is the second, and most expensive phase of our three-phased waterworks project. The Federal government has dedicated $4,295,000, the Province $2,834,700, and the remaining $1,460,300 will be paid by the City via a dividend from Prince Rupert Legacy Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of the City of Prince Rupert. Legacy funds are used in order to lessen the burden of this major infrastructure project on ratepayers. We are very excited to announce this funding to the community, as we have now achieved $11.5 million dollars in total funding for our waterworks project. Receiving this large investment from other levels of Government illustrates their commitment to Prince Rupert and our community’s future well-being. said Mayor Lee Brain. Securing our water supply is City Council’s number one major infrastructure priority and showcases our commitment to Rebuild Prince Rupert. This month, the City awarded the contract for Phase I to Kledo Construction to replace and bury the water pipeline and build an access road to the dam. This first Phase was also funded in part by Federal and Provincial Building Canada Fund grants, with Prince Rupert Legacy Inc. covering the remaining 33%. The City will be pursuing future grant opportunities to fund Phase III of the project, to replace the submarine lines which carry our potable water below Fern Passage. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: For more information on the 3-phase waterworks project, check out the video below released last year.
