To my parent and grandparent friends, With back to school underway, I thought it would be timely to make a post to remind you that yes, I can assist you in setting up an RESP for your child or grandchild, as well as help you register for the government grants that you are eligible for within a Registered Education Savings Plan. Being an advisor with Sun Life Financial, most of you associate me with life insurance, which I am happy for - but that is only one of the weapons in my arsenal. Feel free to give me a call, e-mail or PM if you'd like to set up a time to look at options for saving for your young one's education. With the power of time on your side, a little bit can go a long way.

To My Dear Friends and Clients, *I know this is long, but please read to the end* I am going to be heading to Uganda in March for some time to do some volunteer work alongside a non-profit foundation that is near and dear to my heart. ... I began volunteering with Umoja back in 2013, specifically with the children, and I can't tell you how many wonderful memories I have created since then. They are are a non-profit society operating out of Surrey, whose mission is to empower minorities and refugees to integrate into Canadian society. However, another one of their tenets is to support initiatives to improve the quality of life in the developing world. Back in 2007, founder and executive director, Amos Kambere, built Rwentutu Christian Community School in the Kasese district of Western Uganda, where he immigrated to Canada from over 25 years ago. The school started with 90 students from k-7, and has now grown to over 250 students. Since then, there has also been the addition of a medical clinic which serves the elementary school as well as the community at large, as well as the implementation of a micro-finance program for the local women. As most of you know, I love any excuse to throw a party, so on Saturday, March 4th at 6 PM, I am going to be hosting a fundraiser at Dublin's Crossing Irish Pub on the Surrey/Langley border. Tickets are $20 and will include a burger (vegetarian option available) and a beer (or glass of house wine or highball). Of course, there will be door prizes, silent auctions, 50/50, and more. 100% of the funds raised will go towards supplies for the different operations in the village that are much needed - school supplies, supplies for the medical clinic, enrolling more women in the micro finance program, and more. It would mean the world to me if you, my friends, could save the date and join me for this evening! You can contact me directly for tickets on here, or at 604-809-0548. Please feel free to share this post and event as well. If you can't attend but would still like to get involved somehow, it would be so appreciated! Regardless of whether or not you attend the event, you are still able to donate, and tax receipts will be available for donations of $25 and up. If you, or someone you know, is a business owner who would like to donate a gift/service for the silent auction/door prizes, please let me know! Thank-you from the bottom of my heart, Emily

With love from me to you, a list of 5 things you may not know about that mortgage protection insurance from your bank or lender. You know, the insurance you said you'd take but perhaps didn't know exactly what you were agreeing to? 1) With mortgage insurance from your lender, as your mortgage balance decreases, so does your coverage, even though your monthly premium is not decreasing in accordance; so, you are still paying the same amount for it whether you have $500,000 of ...coverage, or $100,000. When your insurance is obtained through a private insurance company, the amount of coverage remains the same and, more often than not, for a cheaper monthly premium. 2) With mortgage insurance through your lender, only the individual(s) listed on the mortgage are covered. When you obtain mortgage protection insurance through a private insurance provider (eg- Sun Life), your entire family can be protected - even those not responsible for paying the mortgage. 3) With mortgage insurance through your lender, should you pass away unexpectedly or become seriously ill, the bank/lender receives the proceeds of your insurance - not you or your beneficiary. The opposite is true with mortgage protection insurance through someone like myself. 4) Mortgage insurance through your lender is tied to the loan. When you choose to be insured through a private company, the coverage is yours and you can take it with you whether you buy a new house, or switch lenders - you do not need to reapply for a policy when you are older and possibly not in as good health, which translates to higher premiums. 5) Mortgage insurance through your lender does not get underwritten prior to issuing your policy, but rather at the time of claim, which can lead to some issues arising at a time where you may possibly have enough on your plate to deal with, and don't want to have to worry about your insurance claim not paying out. For more on this point, take a few minutes to watch this piece from CBC Marketplace: http://www.cbc.ca/marketpl/episodes/2008-episodes/in-denial. As always, if you have any questions or if I can be of assistance to you and your family, e-mail me anytime at [email protected], or click the "send e-mail" button on my page. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and health and happiness in 2017. Warmly, Emily

Hi everyone, I haven't had the chance to touch base with all of you since I returned home from up north, but as of recently, I am back doing what I do best and serving as your advisor at Sun Life Financial. A lot of you have had (or have coming up) many exciting milestones - new homes, new jobs, a baby on the way. Know that I'm cheering for you all from the sidelines and as usual, I'd be honored to help you protect the things you love most in life through a combination of in...surance and wealth building solutions. To my clients, thank-you once again for putting your trust in me as your advisor. I will be reaching out to each one of you over the days that follow to see how our plans that we implemented last time we met are working, and check if there is anything that needs updating or review. I look forward to working with all of you over the remainder of 2016, and can't wait to see what 2017 has in store. Yours truly, Emily *To those of you who have used my services in the past and found them to beneficial, please feel free to share this post*
