Today I'm reading: an important reminder. Shame is a horrible long-term motivator. [Image description: a photo of my hand holding a white book in front of my laptop, with the title "31 days of compassionate help: how to keep house while drowning" by KC Davis, LPC. The next photo is of a page in the book that says "8: shame is the enemy of functioning. Please do not bully yourself into doing care tasks. Shame is a horrible long-term motivator period most of the time it is par...alyzing, compounding the barriers one already has to completing care tasks. This sets up a cycle where the uncompleted task creates shame, which in turn saps motivation and energy, often leading to avoiding the task all together. Instead of doing care tasks out of a motivation of distress, you can learn to do them out of a motivation of self care. With compassionate inner dialogue and gentle skill building, you can begin to create and enjoy a worthwhile life." See more

Hi folks! Just a quick heads up that I'll be taking some time off for the holiday and I'll be back on January 4. I'll be checking emails while I'm away, but likely won't respond until the new year unless it's urgent/immediate. Bear with me, be safe, and I'll see you all on the other side of this trash fire of a year!

November 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance. While being transgender is so much more than pain and abuse, today we pause to mourn those taken from us too soon by violence and hate. Violence against trans people is often underreported and we may never know the names of everyone we've lost to this epidemic. For many members of the transgender community, today is a difficult day. It is also a day of hope. A day to live not just to fight again -- but to dance, sing, fall in love, create beautiful things, find friendship, and make plans for the future. For anyone looking for support and community today, Kyle's Place has partnered with speqtrum Hamilton to offer peer support this evening. Hey folks! I haven't been super active here and I'm sorry for the silence. Things have been bananas what with the pandemic and the election and the... *gestures vaguely at 2020*. So here I am, popping in with a meme and to encourage you all to be kind to yourselves as best you can and remember that you are doing your best! I'm going to try to share more here, and I am always reachable even when I'm not posting very actively
