Above all, Beethoven's music represents our common striving for freedom, equality, and friendship - our hope in the future of humanity - what the French Revolution called 'Liberté, Egalité, & Fraternité. Happy Bastille Day to all !!!!

She touched so many of us! In her sound lived generations upon generations of great masters - it seems all the way back to Bach! I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have performed the Bach double with her many years ago at Orford - thanks to my colleagues, friends, and mentor - André Roy. This will always be one of the most memorable and deeply meaningful moments of my musical life. Rest in Peace dear Ida.

In this time of individual reflection and global transformation I would like to share what I believe will become a beacon of hope for the future. Last week The Presencing Institute at MIT launched the Global Activation of Intention and Action forum: an international community. Over 10,000 people from around the world registered for this forum and the community is growing exponentially as people are connecting to presencing & collaborative leadership work from all corners of ...the globe, and from all disciplines and walks of life. In this forum, the Presencing Institute's co-founder Otto Scharmer shared his perspective of the opportunity for potential learning from this global disruption in the following way: 1. We are all connected 2. You change the system 3. When we face disruption, we have to be awake 4. In this moment we have a choice : to turn away, or turn towards change 5. The future depends upon the inner place from which we make this choice, from which we choose to change. The three areas of change: Open mind - change learning Open heart - change democracy Open will - change economy Most importantly, the GAIA Journey involves the dynamic interaction between connecting globally and acting locally in place and interest specific communities. I am very pleased to announce that The Parcival Project is now officially a Presencing Institute/GAIA Journey 'interest hub' serving the exploration of collaborative leadership in the arts: "The universal musical trinity of rhythm, melody, and harmony can be transposed into the language of Theory U as willing, thinking, and feeling. Furthermore, the current emerging concept of "timbre" - the quality or colour of a sound and the intention of a performance - is dependent not only on the inner state of the performer but also that of the listener." The Parcival Project's hub page on the GAIA site is: https://www.presencing.org/commun/hubs/the-parcival-project. And for those of you in Montreal: https://www.presencing.org/community/hubs/montreal-hub It is with great hope that I invite you to consider joining the GAIA Journey and becoming a member of The Parcival Project or any other hub in this international community working towards global transformation. Wishing you health, safety, and joy at the coming of spring. Music has the capacity to help us find order, clarity, and purpose in our lives. The music of Johann Sebastian Bach can help us in this critical moment of individual reflection and global transformation. Above all, Bach's music expresses the absolute interrelatedness of many individual voices coming together in the creation of musical harmony. In honour of Bach's 335th birthday, I wish to share his Ciaconna for solo violin - a piece which has been a guiding star in my life. ... Today, humanity has been given an enormous opportunity to transform. "Now that we can no longer go to the gym there are other muscles to train. One of these is the 'distancing muscle.' In acting this is the art of stretching the distance between two actors on stage without letting the space between them go slack - or dead. In music, it is the art of stretching time - without completely losing the pulse. Today we are all being asked to practice social distancing. This does not mean that we should no longer face the world or each other. On the contrary. On a walk we can choose a tree in the distance, a flower on the ground, or a person - and enter into this space between ourselves and the other with conscious attention. Most likely we will first experience this space as an empty space, maybe even a dead space. However, if we decide to turn our attention to it, increasing and decreasing the consciousness we brings to it, we can learn to flex this attention like a muscle. We may even eventually begin to feel this in-between space become alive and take on a certain bounce or even a very subtle vibrating sensation to it. We can then try to see how far we can stand apart from someone and still feel this in-between space stay alive. In human relationships this space is often either suffocated - by being too close, or starved - by being too far apart. In both cases this in-between space is unable to breathe properly when not filled with that intentional consciousness, that attentive interest called love in its purest state." - Gisela Wielke, March 21st, 2020 For cellist Pablo Casals, the wonder of Bach is the musical expression of this space between human and divine. The wonder of Bach is unsurpassed in any other art. Human nature is hollowed out until it is takes on a god like profile. Through Bach’s music God becomes more human, And the human being becomes more divine. This is the work of Bach. - Pablo Casals Wishing you all calmness of heart, clarity of mind, and the courage to act for the highest good of all. Amitié, Emmanuel Thanks to Zander Howard-Scott for his help with the creation of this recording.
