HERE’S THAT TIME OF THE MONTH WE ACTUALLY LOOK FORWARD TO! We’re back with our next FREE workshop series, What is Media Art? The theme this month: Glitch Media! Evan Pearce @notfortheireyes and Joshua Tokarsky of Ommatidium Studios explain their workflow working within the extended reality space. Pearce explains the creation of digital textures to be used in CG applications through the use of glitch art techniques and machine learning, while Tokarsky shares insight on the wor...kflow between reality and the computer generated world, as well as various techniques regarding the simulation of realistic physical objects and lights. This stream will cover: -Shot considerations when shooting real-world footage to be used with CG elements. -Camera tracking techniques and pitfall. -Working with tracked elements in CG software. -Utilizing render passes within CG software. -Simulating both shadows and reflections of CG objects in real-world footage. -Basic compositing workflow. -Mobilizing ML and glitch software to create textures to be used in CG settings. This stream is designed to be as accessible as possible, focusing primarily on software which is free or outlining workflows which are easily replicable in free software

The theme this month: Augmented Reality with Tyler Longmire @tklongmire Tyler has been a staple of the animation and AR community in Calgary for some time, creating interactive installations for EMMEDIA during our Spectral Illuminations program. Now he is back and ready to show you how to create your own augmented reality filters and overlays. If you have ever been interested in AR..., Tyler's live stream is a great place to start learning about the medium. Tyler Klein Longmire is an animator and theatre-maker based in Calgary, AB. He has worked as the Production Director at the Quickdraw Animation Society, an artist-run centre for independent animators, and is a founding member of the experimental performance collective Humble Wonder Theatre. His practice attempts to explore the spaces where animated film, performance, technology, and his communities can intersect. Animation and theatre serve as the twin poles of his work, with some wild fluctuations in between them depending on what’s keeping him up at night. His projects have spanned the gamut of both traditional and experimental theatre, to animated film, installations, projection design, live video, virtual reality, comics and illustration.

Mat...thew Waddell and Laura Anzola (@azmadigital) bring EMMEDIA and company through the media art form known as projection mapping, the practice of projecting images onto unusual and interesting objects. In this two hour stream broadcast from the AZMA Digital workspace, we'll get to see what it takes to make a projection come to life through Waddell and Anzola's past works and a special exhibition of a new live creation.
