Emmerson Packaging is writing to clarify their positioning on a memo sent out by an employee, that had not been properly authorized by Executive, on 3rd January. Nova Scotia Department of Health has confirmed that an individual within the region tested positive to COVID-19 on December 31st. This case has been traced to a known case in New Brunswick from 27th December. Separately, a volunteer organization, of which six of our employees are part of, were informed that the Depar...tment of Health as a precautionary measure, were going to arrange testing due to a potential exposure from the confirmed case who was at an event on December 17th. The Department of Health considers the December 17th event as an unlikely exposure, as they are confident that this individual did not have COVID at that time due to their extensive tracing. As this is a precautionary testing, self-isolation was deemed not required from the Department of Health. However, we have spoken to all of our employees who attended the December 17th event and have directed them to stay at home until they receive a negative COVID test result. We can confirm we have had zero confirmed cases of COVID in our Amherst facility. The memo was sent out with the hope of limiting community spread and raising awareness, however we recognize and apologize for the confusion that this may have caused.
