I believe each individual person is unique and what works for one person, may not work for everyone. Together we will explore what tools and strategies will help you to move through your struggle and reach your goals. We will look at family patterns, removing obstacles, exploring thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I am here to encourage and support clients; a compassionate facilitator. We all want connection - someone to talk to who will really listen and accept us without judgement. My intention is to provide a safe space and to support you on your personal journey toward self awareness and discovery.

Orange Shirt Day (September 30th) is a day when we honour the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada and learn more about the history of those schools. Residential schools were church-run schools where approximately 150,000 Métis, Inuit and First Nations children were sent between the 1860s and the 1990s. The schools harmed Indigenous children by removing them from their families, forcing them to speak English or French instead of their ances...tral languages, disconnecting them from their culture and traditions and forcing them to adopt Christianity in order to assimilate into Canadian society. The government has since acknowledged that this approach was wrong, cruel and ineffective, and offered an official apology to the Indigenous people of Canada in 2008. Why is September 30th a special date? September 30th falls during the time of year when Indigenous children were taken away to residential school. Why is it an orange shirt? The orange shirt in Orange Shirt Day refers to the new shirt that Phyllis Webstad was given to her by her grandmother for her first day of school at St. Joseph’s Mission residential school in British Columbia. When Phyllis got to school, they took away her clothes, including her new shirt. It was never returned. To Phyllis, the colour orange has always reminded her of her experiences at residential school and, as she has said, how my feelings didn’t matter, how no one cared and I felt like I was worth nothing. All of us little children were crying and no one cared. The message that Phyllis wants to pass along on Orange Shirt Day and every day is that every child matters. Orange Shirt Day was started by Phyllis to educate people about residential schools and fight racism and bullying. What can you do? There are many ways you can get involved! Wear an orange shirt on September 30th This year, students can watch a virtual event online hosted by the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation. Share Phyllis’ story. You can watch it on YouTube. https://www.cbc.ca/kidscb/the-feed/what-is-orange-shirt-day #orangeshirtday #everychildmatters #residentialschoolawareness

Ignite Your Relationship ~Feeling the pressures of priorities shifting now that you are a parent? ~Not on the same page when parenting? ~Increased conflict?... ~Lack of communication? ~Difficulty in connecting emotionally or physically? ~Confused and wondering where your relationship is headed? ~Feeling unappreciated? Relationships ARE challenging. We often to look to our families and caregivers to teach us how to be in relationship but what if they were unable to teach us the skills and tools we need to be in a healthy relationship? What if they weren’t taught themselves? How can we possibly expect success in our own relationships? Counselling can help: ~Create happy, healthy, lasting love. ~Discover healthy boundaries and how to establish and maintain them. ~Learn effective tools for communicating. ~Reconnect with your partner. ~Explore choices, values and beliefs that have created your current struggle so that options and solutions become clearer. ~Identify your needs, strengths, and gifts that each of you bring into relationship. Don't wait until it's too late... Leaving these issues unresolved can lead to resentment, anger, and possibly the end of a relationship. The sooner you get help, the easier it is to turn things around. Don’t wait another day. You deserve connection, and the chance at a happier, healthier, relationship.

FAQ's Friday IS COUNSELLING CONFIDENTIAL? Yes, absolutely. There will be times where we may discuss if you are ready to share certain information with people in your life but only when you feel ready. What we discuss never leaves the room except for these circumstances: The courts subpoena my files or if I am subpoenaed as a witness in court... Criminal code violations where physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse has not previously been reported (eg. Child abuse, Elder abuse, etc) Whereby any person’s life or health is in obvious danger, including my own. If you threaten to harm yourself or another, I am required to report this to the appropriate authorities. In the event of an emergency, I may have to share your identity, medical history and presenting condition to an emergency crew and contact your emergency contact. It is my intention to provide you with the best possible care and support. That is why throughout our therapeutic relationship there will be occasions where I will consult with a professional peer (another Registered Therapeutic Counsellor) or a RCS (Registered Counselling Supervisor). Your confidence is held within the boundaries and ethics governing my practice and I will not disclose any identifying factors with the exceptions noted above where I am legally required to. This is one of my favourite quotes and a great reminder that my belief of how things "should" be, doesn't always line up with what the Universe has planned for me!
