We missed celebrating #nationaldogday yesterday because this handsome guy wasn’t feeling well. And to be honest, every day is dog day here anyhow :) He’s now had a 24 hour tummy reset for here to hoping he’s back to demanding nonstop treats shortly. ... In the meantime if you need me, I’m taking all the extra snuggles I ca. Get and loving his upset tummy away! When tummy troubles hit Walter we give him a little bit of pumpkin and then try to let his tummy work itself out. If he gets really hungry and demands a snack, it’s a very tiny bit of white rice or plain noodle. After a tummy reset we slowly start with rice or noodles and a touch of pumpkin until we’re sure (and he’s sure) that it’s time for something more. What is your go-to for tummy trouble with your dogs? #seniorgreyhound #everydayisdogday See more

It’s another #WalterWisdomWednesday! Walter and I would love to chat about grace. Grace can be some understanding, some compassion or some empathy. It’s ok to make a mistake, to wish you could react differently. But beating yourself up about it doesn’t open you up to being ok with acknowledging your mistake. It doesn’t let you forgive yourself. ... When you can’t accept your actions because you’re being too hard on yourself, then you can’t acknowledge what the impact might have been for someone else. Which means you’ll struggle to resolve a conflict. We’re all wrong sometimes, we’ve got to be willing to give ourselves some grace. You deserve some grace. Guess what. So do the other people in your life. Instead of jumping to the conclusion that they mean to do something hurtful or disrespectful, maybe offer them some grace. When you give grace it gives you the opportunity to be more curious, and to find out what is really going on. And it gives them the chance to be able to understand that they might be wrong. It gives you both the opportunity to have a discussion, a chance to problem solve and find practical solutions. So easy to say but hard to do, I understand that. If you want to extend some grace or want to ask for it but don’t know how, I can help. #IehlpAngryPeople #conflictresolution #conflictresolutionskills

Some mark today as Blue Monday, but all should honour Martin Luther King Jr Day too. To me, both represent the need for understanding, kindness, education and conversations. So I’m encouraging everyone today to spend some time learning other perspectives. Read about the experiences of others to gain more empathy. Listen to stories of those who have endured the hard stuff to learn how you can help be an agent of positive change in the world. ... You can share resources below if there’s something you’d like others to see

Its #WalterWisdomWednesday! Walter gave me a lot of stink eye for this wisdom, because as a retired racing greyhound he’s a fan of speed as a way of winning races. He’s not not wrong when it comes to sprints, but I reminded him (yes I have conversations with my dog) that these days he’s learning the benefits of slowing down. He can still win a race to the couch or a biscuit though! ... We both agree however that when it comes to conflict resolution that rushing things doesn’t usually solve things. You know how you feel when someone is rushing you to make a decision, pressuring you to ‘get on with it’. It certainly doesn’t make you feel like opening up and having a real productive conversation. Take the time to really get an understanding, to ask questions and to clarify points of misunderstanding. And also remember, sometimes getting to a better place with someone can take time. Trust might need to be rebuilt, new routines might need to be established. Or it might be that the conflict has been going on for so long, or has cut so deep that baby steps might be the only way to move forward. Baby steps are still steps don’t forget. So slow down, don’t rush things. Remember to be patient, don’t get too frustrated if you can’t solve everything in one shot. Slow and steady can win you the race. And if you need help, Walter and I are here. Virtual and phone sessions are still available as we all hunker down. Start the new year with a clean slate, let’s get those nagging, lingering disputes sorted out. #IHelpAngryPeople #ConflictResolution #WednesdayWisdom

It’s the last #WalterWisdomWesdnesday of 2020! This week Wals and I want to remind you to consider the place and time....an argument over Christmas dinner isn’t going to be productive for anyone for example. Often disagreements escalate when brought up at the wrong place and time. ... Try to create a situation to talk it out when you both are calmer and able to actually talk and listen. What if you’re not the one to start the fight? Don’t forget that you don’t have to attend every argument you’re invited to. Stay firm on your intent to have the conversation at a more appropriate time and take a washroom break to grab some calming breathes if needed. The holidays are different this year, and that’s leaving people stressed, scared and sad. We might not be at our best, so give a little grace and bite your tongue until you can have a better conversation. Easy to say but harder to do I know. But we’ve worked on our Walter Wisdoms all year, so you’ve got this! And if you struggle, that’s ok too...give yourself some grace to not be perfect and then just try again. #wisdomwednesday #conflictmanagement #conflictresolution #smartdog #wednesdaywisdom #holidayconflict

Have you heard of LifeSpeak Inc.? They are an incredible Employee Assistance Program that focuses on providing valuable mental health and wellness content for people across North America. And I’m not just saying that because I’m proud to be in their impressive roster of Official Experts ... I absolutely love the approach they are taking towards improving lives and workplaces. In both French and English no less! If you, or someone you love is an employee, I highly recommend they ask their employer to bring LifeSpeak on board for employee support and growth. And if you’re an employer, it’s an easy decision to take care of your people. Check them out.

Word around the internet is that it’s #NationalKindnessDay I say forget that, I don’t want a day of people remembering to be kind, I want a kindness revolution! Let’s default to kindness, let’s have good intentions, let’s assume good intentions and let’s be less harsh with our words and messages. ... Forget a day, make it a way of life. When you’re angry, kindness can few extra hard. Let’s work together on that, and start working on some conflict resolution. Big props to TrinaPhoto.com for shooting me an image library that kicks butt.

The weather may be getting chilly but the wisdom is staying HOT! It’s time for another #WalterWisdomWednesday When you’re frustrated, or hurt or angry or impatient with someone it can be easy to figure that you know what they are going to do or say. It’s normal to think that way, but it’s not very helpful. When you think you know the answer you do 2 things.... first you usually will ask a question tailored to the answer you expect. Second you don’t really listen to the answe...r, you listen for your chance to jump in. Which means you miss digger deeper and finding out what’s really driving their behaviour or you miss being surprised by what they want to tell you. We all know how it feels when someone asks a question they think they already know the answer to. And most of the time, the quality of our answer changes because of it. So that person who you’re disagreeing with, that argument you’re having....try being curious. Approach the problem like you don’t know what the answers or actions will be. You’ll get better answers and more information. And they’ll most likely reciprocate and be curious about your reasons too. And in all that, often solutions start appearing. Practice being curious when things aren’t heated, then you’ll be better at it when they are. And if they are already heated, let’s chat. #IHelpAngryPeople #ConflictResolution #WednesdayWisdom #SmartDog
