. IMPORTANT PLEASE READ . I am extremely passionate about this topic, and will fully share why... .... Having been a player at both the Canadian National and NCAA D1 (full scholarship to @universityoflouisville and @niagarauniversity), I too thought that transitioning from playing to coaching would be simple. After all, I had enough top level playing experience. Playing and coaching are one in the same, right? . WRONG. . Though my extensive playing career has provided me with many tools to help me better understand my players, and the game, it did not prepare me to be the coach I am today. . What I have learned over the past 10 years of coaching - on field, and in the classroom - cannot be replicated as a player. . My question to parents who seek out, and pay for supplementary training for their kids - have you asked yourself these CRUCIAL questions first? . Does this coach have any coaching certifications? If so, which ones (FYI, these qualifications are google-able)? Are you aware of which qualifications coaches need to coach at various age groups and levels? Would you pay for personal training for yourself from someone who had little experience and no/few qualifications? Have you done a background check on this coach? Is the safety of your child in the right person’s hands? How much coach experience do they have and at what level? Have you asked other contacts in the soccer community about them? The sporting community is very small, you’d be surprised at how quickly coaches gain a positive/negative reputation . As a coach who has put in the TIME - like I mentioned both on field, and in the classroom - nothing makes me more sad then to see youth players being trained by inexperienced coaches. Just because a coach pushes your child and makes them work really hard doesn’t mean they are a good coach. . Anyone can make a player run sprints, it takes a true coach to help bring out the best in each individual player. . The second picture came from an interview between @ussoccer and @j_klinsmann (former US National Men’s Team Coach) @ Soccer love See more
