If your doctor recommends you have a colonoscopy, don’t worry. You may think it’s going to be a terrible procedure, but it won’t be. Most likely you won’t even be awake to remember it. (Most people consider the preparation for the procedure to be the worst part.) A colonoscopy is an exam your doctor uses to look inside your large intestine for possible causes of things like abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, or changes in bowel habits. Before giving you a colonoscopy, your doct...or will want to know about any special medical conditions you might have, including: - Pregnancy - Kidney diseases - Lung & Hearth conditions - Allergies to medications Also tell your doctor if you have diabetes or take drugs that could affect blood clotting. They may need to adjust to these medications before the procedure. To have a successful colonoscopy, you must have a clean colon. That means you need to restrict your diet at least 24 hours before the procedure. Solid foods usually are off-limits, but your doctor will usually say it’s OK to have clear liquids, such as: Coffee Broth Water Sports drinks Colonoscopies are used to prevent colorectal cancer, usually starting at age 45. During a colonoscopy abnormal growths, called polyps, can be removed before they transform into cancers. #colonoscopy #colonoscopyexam #colorectalcancer #colorectalcancerawareness #cancerawareness #EHCW #drinkwater #cancerawareness

This poem was written byRa yah Ali from our team where she decided to express a shared sense of vulnerability felt when we feel alone. Among a crowd or in isolation, the feeling of loneliness can overtake our sense of freedom and joy. Her hope is to present that within internal defeat, there may be a voice that wants to create, live and imagine loudly. During these times that are hard to endure, feelings of loneliness often take a long time to overcome. In some cases, there s...eems to be no advice that can solve the problems that rest in our minds. Rayah’s hope in writing this poem is to empathize and remind us that feeling disappointed, let down, unhappy, or alone brings to light uncomfortable emotions that matter. They carry a heaviness that is hard to ignore, and her aim is to help readers recognize the validity of their emotions. Feeling defeated can lead us to compare our lives to the happiness of others and this can be problematic. While it is uplifting to feel inspired, it’s unhelpful to assume to know the complete story behind every outward portrayal. We may fall deeper into isolation by concluding that in this perfect world we do not belong. What can we do with these feelings of very real emotions? What can we try to create while recognizing the validity of the way we feel? The aim of this piece is to encourage you to engage in a similar discourse - not to discount the way we feel but rather, channel our emotions towards creative expression founded on the acknowledged honesty of our feelings.

A brief but useful overview - Understanding Cancer

Proper nutrition and diet are important in helping to reduce the risk of many diseases, and colorectal cancer is no exception. In the fight against this disease, nutritional guidelines include eating less saturated fat and getting more nutrients from the food you eat rather than from supplements. Here are 4 important nutrients that you can find in food: 1) Antioxidants The body's cells have a natural defence strategy against free radicals and are able to repair the damag...e caused by them. Antioxidants, such as selenium and beta-carotene, may help reinforce this protection. Studies have shown that antioxidants are best taken as foods as opposed to supplements. Some examples of antioxidants are carotene, beta-carotene, and lutein. Foods that are good sources of antioxidants include fruits, vegetables, and certain types of tea. 2) Other Vitamins and Minerals (Folic Acid) It's already known that folic acid is essential in forming new cells and tissues as well as keeping red blood cells healthy. The most common sources of folic acid are citrus fruits and dark green leafy vegetables, especially spinach. 3) Calcium and Vitamin D Recent studies have suggested that these two substances may not only strengthen bones but may also help fight off colon cancer. Good sources of calcium include milk, cheese, yogurt, salmon, sardines, and dark-green leafy vegetables such as kale, mustard, and collard greens. 4) Fiber Fiber has been thought to be a powerful weapon against cancer. Though there is conflicting research as to whether or not fiber has protective effects against colorectal cancer, there is evidence that fiber intake improves overall health. Good sources of fiber include whole-grain cereals and bread, prunes, berries, kidney beans, and other legumes, fresh fruits and vegetables, and brown rice.

Wow, is it Friday already? Time flies, isn’t it? Here’s our dose of #FridayInspiration for a better start to your day :) Despite being commonly overlooked, faith and hope go hand-in-hand. They are connected with spirituality and play a significant role in self-care particularly in helping to overcome life’s challenges. If your thoughts are constantly negative it can lead to you believing that there isn’t anything better for you or you won’t make it through your difficult sit...uation. It can cause you to lose faith and lead to a sense of hopelessness. If you ever find yourself getting to a place where it seems like there is no reason to go on, ask someone close to you for help. It is okay. We all need help at some point in our lives Some battles are not meant to be fought alone. We are stronger together! #fridayquotes #fridayinspiration #instaquotes #quotes
