Winter temperature is again forecast in our region over the next 24 hours. Staying warm may be a challenge. Our health unit recommends the following cold weather safety tips: Be Aware: know the weather conditions before going outside and be alert for signs of frostbite and hypothermia. Cover up: wear a hat (40% of body heat loss can occur through the head), and gloves/mittens, a scarf to protect the chin, lips, nose and cheeks. Warm Up: drink warm fluids, avoid caffeine or... alcohol as they cause your body to lose heat more rapidly, wear clothes in layers, take shelter from the wind. For information on warming shelters during COVID, please visit our COVID -19 Public Health Guidance Document for Warming Shelters For additional information on Extreme Cold and how to protect yourself and others, visit www.simcoemuskokahealth.org or call Health Connection at (705) 721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520 to speak with a health professional. On this day in 2014 an EF2 tornado touched down in Angus, Ontario. Do you have a plan for your family when Environment Canada issues a tornado warning? Get inside a sturdy building, get to the basement or lowest floor possible and take shelter in a small interior room with not windows. #beprepared http://ow.ly/qebS50vyhVZ
