Curl Up & Dye 06.01.2021

To all my valued clients and dear friends.. This has been a tough year. Unlike anything we've ever experienced. I want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for your continued support and love As I reflect on this year and all the intense ups & downs I can’t help but feel bitter-sweet about this year This year has been one of the toughest yet. Let's talk about a complete 180 on emotions and normalcy but no matter the highs or lows I’m grateful to be able to ...feel emotion. To have empathy. To have sorrow. To cry. To laugh. To love & simply to live. Never taking one moment or breath for granted. 2020 you will never be forgotten but forever remembered. It may be early to say this but 2021. I’m excited for you. You are not ready to see what I have in store for you! I would never be able to do what I love every single day without all of you! I may always joke to blow off some steam but you ladies are the reason. You're the reason I come to work every day I look forward to seeing you all in the new year and the hopes that we will return to some type of normalcy. Wishing you and your families the very best holiday season. Merry Christmas to all of you May 2021 bring us better times Emily

The hair game has changed, but have expectations followed? Well, we all know some have like production expectations, for example. It's no longer quickly sifting... through a magazine minutes before the appt. Stylists are now brought a vision board of hair goals that's usually been thoughtfully curated over weeks or even months. (which personally I love) Along with millions of inspiration at our fingertips 24/7, social media has also provided artists with almost an equal amount of education. So who can be mad about more education & more inspiration? The problem isn't that at all. The problem lies where the evolution of this industry & the evolution of expectations quit aligning. What's expected of stylists now is nowhere near the basic max-two-hour highlight. There's hundreds of foils and lots of blending within them. There's root melting/tapping/smudging. There's multi-dimensional toning. There's bond builders and treatments. Boiling down into one sentence: more & more people are walking out of salons with artwork on their heads. Artwork that instead of lasting a mere 4-6 weeks, can now last 4-6 MONTHS, and sometimes even longer. Unfortunately although production expectations have increased significantly, timing & pricing expectations have somehow stayed back as they were in the pre-social media days. As inspiration and education evolves, demarcation lines have almost become a thing of the past (hallelujah!) and with that, so have the necessary monthly full highlight appointments, too. But at what COST? Time & money, on BOTH ends. The longer the appointments, the longer you can go BETWEEN appointments. And most likely the pricier the appointment, the longer you can go before having to spend that amount again. The looks that are being sought after now cannot be done at the same price point nor in the same amount of time as what was expected back then. A simple concept that is so quite often misunderstood. <3 ig: hairbybayliestreet

Let's be real... it's the self-care version of "are we there yet?" I hear it from stylists just as much as I hear it from clients. Foils in (or almost in), kicked back & relaxing, then you get a buzz.... "Where are you? How much longer? You STILL have foils in your hair? How is it taking THIS long?" & sometimes, we're not even at the half way mark! The sooner we normalize that what the majority of us want on our heads is legitimate ART, the sooner so's (and even ourselves) will understand it may need to be a day spent away. Seriously. Timing needs to be talked about more because we are no longer just foiling & going. There is blending, multi dimensional toning, root melting, treatments, cuts, styles and of course, the much needed photoshoot. To put it in other words for the misunderstood so's, we don't "just do hair." We're artists & there's no time limit on that. Expectations for results have changed (majorly), so timing expectations need to mirror that.

At this time I have just a few Xmas appointments available which looked to be almost fully booked with the amount of messages sitting in our inbox. I am hopping to contuine to take on new clients on 2021 but as of right now its looking like 2020 if fully booked for the year
