Clients are required to wear a mask during their appointments and this one change has become an enemy in lash extension retention. When a client isn’t wearing a mask their breath would normally spread out into the room. Now that clients have to wear masks, their breath is pushed upwards towards the area we apply the extension. We all know that if you wear glasses, wearing a mask is an absolute nightmare because it fogs up your glasses. This is because breath is hot air.... When you’re breathing hot air into your extensions you’re adding an excessive amount of humidity to the lash adhesive. High humidity speeds up the drying speed of lash adhesive. This means the adhesive on the extensions will start curing much faster. We’re still able to apply the extensions to the natural lash, however it is already half cured at that point. This can result in the extension falling off prematurely. There are ways to try to prevent this such as taping the clients mask down but if you’re still noticing that your extensions are falling off A LOT quicker than normal, this is likely the reason!
