This post is not about food, however that was a delicious burger! This is about taking time to do what makes you feel happy. As some of you know this last week and a half has been stressful. Ive felt overwhelmed. Tired. Frustrated. Unsure. So today, we made plans to do something just for us. Something that would make our hearts feel happy. Give us a moment to just breathe. To relax. ... We took a few hours and went for a ride, and it was glorious. We rode, stopped for delicious burgers, hung out, and then headed home. And it was just what was needed. Self care comes in many forms. Today it was a ride with my best friend and time to turn off my brain. Im so grateful for family and the ability to take the few hours today Take time to make your soul happy. Even if it means you have to schedule it in. Its absolutely worth the planning #selfcare #mindfullness #happiness

Sometimes I succeed. Sometimes its a big flop . One thing is always constant - I will keep trying. Maybe my fitness class was empty, but I still showed up and taught. Maybe my class was full, and it was magical teaching. Maybe my online live chat had no one attend, but I still did it. ... Maybe my online chat had attendees and they loved what I had to say. No matter the outcome, one thing is always the same. I will keep trying, I will keep showing up, I will be consistent... and one day the hard work will pay off consistently. But for today, I will take it with the ups and downs, because for the few ups its worth it and the downs are learning experiences. Nothing is waste. People count everything from calories to steps. But there is one measurement that's constantly counted, addressed, and criticized when it comes to health a person's weight. This is true for everyone, and seems to become an even hotter topic for those expecting! The number of times I was asked so how much weight did you gain during pregnancy or the comments oh, dont gain too much weight while pregnant or else it will be harder to bounce back! Ugh! ... Because of the emphasis placed on this number so often, people tend to think it's the only one that matters when it comes to your health. And it's not. Absolutely not. Your wellbeing actually comes down to a few different measures - how hydrated are you (what colour is your pee!), your blood pressure, are you eating a well balanced diet, cholesterol levels, blood sugar levels, how much time do you move your body daily, how much sleep do you get, and so on! So lets focus on weight gain during pregnancy right now - it is SO normal. This will vary per person and your health care provider should be focusing on your health as a whole and not just that number on the scale! And no... the weight will not magically disappear postpartum. Its still needed! So lets shift our focus as a whole to health. Lets focus on how hydrated we are (check your pee colour!), eating a variety of nutrient dense foods, giving our bodies and minds rest, and moving our bodies daily! The number on the scale will fluctuate and that is okay! Now Im not saying this is a free pass to each sundaes and brownies only but Im saying everyone and every BODY is different. Weight gain is normal. Small. Or large. But lets put the focus on nourishing and caring for our bodies - not the number on the scale. #prenataleducation #positivevibes #friyay

Overthinking; the art of creating problems that werent even there. Im someone who overthinks SO much of life and its something that Ive been making big strides in to reduce. I joke that my mind is just jam packed with hundreds of thoughts, what ifs, ideas, etc... and its never ending. Ive been working on allowing myself to have space. To meditate. To quiet my racing thoughts. To go with my gut more. To try to stop overthinking when it really isnt needed. Sometimes y...ou really do need to think it out - but you dont need to drive yourself bananas over it (and thats me! ) Stop overthinking. Whatever happens, happens. Overthinking keeps you busy, but takes you no where. Yup. I overthink my overthinking. Its learning that silence isnt empty, sometimes its full of answers. We cant control everything that happens, but we can change our experience of those things. Breathe in. Hold. Breathe out. #mindfulness #workingonme #positivevibes

Happy Monday Everyone! What are you doing to invest in YOU today? Sometimes its hard to put ourselves first. Working out is hard... Not working out is hard Choosing heathy choices is hard Choosing unhealthy chooses is hard Guys... it is all stinkin HARD! So if we look at the trend why dont we try to choose the hard that ends with something amazing for ourselves? Lets choose to show up for ourselves everyday and make choices to invest in what makes us happy! Weve heard it all before: you cant pour from an empty cup. Do something today to take care of you For me my Monday morning started out all WRONG! My planned workout - didnt happen. My planned full nights sleep - nope that one didnt happen either. But after a little regrouping I changed the trend my day was going in and instead of our regular morning walk - we did hills! Alright everyone, this one is specific to #encoremama and inspired by my course work today Most people know that labour involves contractions and a cervix dilating to 10 whole centimetres wide. (Your cervix does not become a big gapping hole in your body just to be clear..but thats a topic for another day ) But what causes your cervix to dilate is your uterus contracting and pushing your babys head against your cervix which causes it to thin and open. ... Movement during labour is a HUGE help in getting your baby into an optimal position to apply pressure to your cervix. Hip swaying and hip rotation as well as labouring on your hands and knees or with one foot up on a stair or a stool are great positions to open your pelvis to get baby into the most optimal position. Invite the intenseness of the contractions and welcome the pressure your baby is putting on that cervix. There are so many great breathing and visualization techniques to help avoid pain and instead invite ease into your labour. One of my personal mantras during labour was that the word PAIN was not allowed! Instead I focussed on words such as pressure, weight, effort etc... The more relaxed and at ease you are & the more you understand instead of fearing the birth process the less pain youll feel. (I really dont like the word pain mixed with labour if you couldnt tell ) IT IS IMPORTANT TO FEEL GOOD WHERE YOU INTEND TO BIRTH YOUR BABY. Choose to have your baby in a space where you feel safe and supported and with people who you trust. At the end of the day were mammals. Subconsciously we havent changed, were just birthing in the 21st century. We seek quiet, safe, dark spaces to have our babies. Yes some birth requires intervention but often, left to progress on its own, birth requires very little except patience and support. #birtheducation #birthmatters #yourbirthmatters #empoweredbirth #supportedbirth #yourbirthyourway #birth #labour

The greatest motivation is not in a song on your headphones or a speech by your idol. It lies in the talk that you have with yourself. Life can most definitely make feeling motivated challenging at times; eating well can be a challenge and moving/being active regularly can become a habitual discipline that simply loses its fun. Heres 3 things I do to spice up my fitness life and re-gain that magic 1 Take a break... Its okay to take a break from your regular workouts and eating. Im not saying to stop all movement and eat a pint of ice cream every night but give yourself a little grace! Instead of pushing for a high intensity workout X times a week - go for a walk, meditate, go outside and play! 2 Change it up Its easy to get into a habit and its also easy to get bored of that habit! Switch your workouts entirely sometimes, try something new! I dont just mean switch the exercises, sets and reps. I mean switch entire styles of moving your body to see how not only your body responds but mentally give you a nice break. You never know what you like or dislike until you give it a try! I use to really dislike Yoga... now I love it! I learnt that it was the style of yoga I had first tried that I didnt enjoy. Granted, now I love it all 3 Understand everything is a cycle Understanding that everything in life is cycles is crucial. Some times to keep moving forwards you need to look at things with a different perspective. If you are not motivated its okay. Dont beat yourself up for it. Dont be your own worse enemy when you are the one who needs to be your best supporter! So take a walk, think to yourself, give yourself a little grace, and create magic everyday! #youvegotthis #loveyourself #fitmom

Good morning and Happy Monday everyone! Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete our survey about Yoga in the Park! It was unanimous that everyone would like to start back up outside! We will have a few new guidelines in place to help keep everyone safe:... - All health forms are to be submitted electronically (either via email or through Facebook messenger) prior to the class. - You must pre-register for the class as we have to limit our class size! Pre-registering also requires that you send your payment electronically as an email money transfer. If you have a credit from our previous Yoga series that was put on pause due to the current circumstances you can pre-register for Yoga in the Park and use your credit! -We will be spacing out our mats to ensure proper physical distancing during class. This also means (sadly) that we will not be able to make any physical adjustments to your postures during class. BUT! We will be talking you through proper form and can also provide additional electronic video's/pictures if you would like additional support after the class! - When you register we will send you a mini health questionnaire/form that we will require you to complete and send back prior to attending class. This form is specific for during this time with COVID-19 Eileen will be our wonderful instructor for these classes and we are SO excited to get moving with you again! The class will be a vinyasa/hatha flow class, open for all levels. You will need to bring your own mat/towel/water with you. When I first looked at this photo my initial response was to SMILE. Jordan snapped this photo of me last weekend just simply being goofy! I kept looking at the picture and picked apart all the flaws that stood out to me, I then deleted it. Instead of just sitting with my initial response to smile and be happy looking at this picture where I was just happy in the moment... I saw my loose stomach, my thighs that still dont have the definition in them that I once had, and so o...n So why am I posting this picture? Because Ive decided to say F*** off to the negative thoughts and celebrate the happy ones with it! I hit a milestone for me today, I am within 5lbs of my pre-pregnancy weight. Just to be clear weight isnt everything! However, it is a simple tool (one of MANY tools) that I use but definitely not the best or the only thing someone should fixate on for health. Im within those 5lbs but things are definitely not as toned, tight, or look the same. I am softer, a little squishier, and have stretch marks. But my body is healthy, strong, and I am so proud of it. Core strength and stability is so important- no matter what stage of life you are in. For me this last year has been a journey postpartum to work on restoring my core and being gentle with myself as I heal my Diastasis recti (DR). DR + scoliosis has made the recovery slower than I had hoped for, but Im making sure to do things right and not fast! Things dont just magically snap back into place after baby arrives. The postpartum recovery period comes with its own set of p...hysical changes. There are a few tips I want to share ... Dont start pushing yourself too soon! Listen to your body (and health professional!) Dont ignore poor form! Ive said this often to my clients ... Quality VS Quantity. Make each movement count! Over crunching ... what do I mean by that? Crunches (spinal flexion) focus on the rectus abdominis and postpartum (especially the first 6 months or if we have DR) we want to shift that focus to our deeper core muscles inside.
