Wellllll it’s almost St.Patrick’s day and I’ve received some really awesome fiddle tunes from a few of my students! Here is a cheerful and energizing performance of Irish Washerwoman performed by Amélie. So good I just had to share it early !! Comment down below your favourite fiddle tune!

Minuet Monday! Here is Minuet in G by Beethoven from the end of Suzuki book 2! I hope this lovely piece brings you some calm feelings and vibes this evening. It’s a new week! Catherine does an amazing job at demonstrating different bow speeds as well as some awesome staccatos in the trio section! Lots of bow control is required for this challenging piece! ... Several of my students have been working on the slow bow challenge or one minute bow challenge It’s like yoga for violinist in my opinion - a focused and engaged right arm while remaining totally relaxed. It’s important to be aware of your muscle movements and to take a second to notice your breathing as you move through the different areas of the bow. This beautiful tune brought me to tears last night as the ball dropped at midnight last night - I hope we can all find beautiful moments within 2020 to remember and reflect on. A little early afternoon music to warm your heart. We are used to listening to Amelie play some fiddle tunes, or working on concertos with some pretty intense 16th note passages. This video is quite the contrast and has been practised so intently. Beautiful long bows connect the slurs, Soft bow retakes, I love it all!

Fridaayyyyyy What an incredible week of lessons!!! As I pack up the church for the week I cant help but feel so overwhelmed and blessed by everyones hard work, joy and energy they brought to their lessons! Maybe its the fall air, maybe its routine starting to settle in but regardless, I am so thankful for such an amazing week! See you at the market 9-10 tomorrow

Lots of new students joining this week!! Its so exciting to see little ones focus on the different sounds on the violin, picking their favourite string and already mastering the Fox like bow hold after just a 30 minute lesson! This photo has me feeling all the colours and excitement of fall - taken at the opening of Raven Art Gallery where I performed for their two day open house. Very exciting news!! This weekend Amelie auditioned for the Niagara Youth Orchestra and was offered a spot in the NYO Concert ensemble!!!! So very proud of all of her hard work this summer for preparing not only scales and classical pieces but an hours worth of market repertoire at the same time! The Niagara Youth Orchestra is a fantastic way for students to get excited about their instrument and playing with others! I was part of both the Junior and Senior ensemble and have always felt like the coaches left a lifetime impact on my musical journey! Thank you for expanding my repertoire and love for music. So excited that one of my students can now take part!

Looking forward to a great morning at the market tomorrow!! Amelie will be performing from 9-10 and I will follow from 10-12! Local fruits and veg with some cute little fiddle tunes

Starting back at St Lukes church for in person lessons again!! So thankful for everyones hard work over these last few months in keeping up with their practicing and overall enthusiasm for the violin. Music can truly help heal worries and anxieties. I will be accepting new students for September lessons so spread the word if you know anyone interested!!! So excited!! See you all tomorrow!

How lovely is Catherine playing this section of Bouree by Handel!!! Beautiful long bows and some fancy vibrato added in!! Amazing story - I have never actually met Catherine in person!!! She overheard my dad talking to my first violin teacher (Crosby Hendershots) son at the local BulkBarn where they were reminiscing when I first started learning the violin! Catherine asked my dad if I was teaching which lead to online lessons and hopefully soon to resume lessons in person for our first in person meeting!!

When your grandfathers fav tune is Despacito you crunch in a 15 minute lesson and lots of practice over 5 days!! Way to go Amélie!! Making family smile with music is such a great gift!

I cant believe this was a year ago!!! Wow !!

What a strong pinky finger!!!! Minuet No.1 has lots of tricky bowing sections and goes back and fourth between low and high 2s (second finger) ... Ashley is doing a fantastic job with the rhythm, bow spacing and overall delivery! She is really taking her playing to the next level by patiently working on this piece and its fine details! Way to go!

Talk about bowfire!! Just a snippet of this big concerto piece miss Amelie is working on! Lots of challenges and tricky tuning passages that she is just totally crushing!!

I am reminded during my own practice today of how therapeutic music can be in times of uncertainty. For now, we will be postponing lessons and my hope and prayers are that our at-home practicing will bring musical joy to our households. We had a wonderful summer at Encore Violin Academy!!! I am excited to offer a referral program for all of my current students. This means that for each student who refers a new student to Encore Violin Academy they will receive ONE MONTH OF FREE LESSONS.
