EN WMP 004 | Lake Louise Trails Overview I had intended to release this map last Friday. I had a very specific vision that did not quite work out and found getting the right data extremely frustrating. But that’s all part of the challenge. Sometimes you have to work with what you got and that’s all you can do. So I changed the idea and figured a greyed out map with contrasted trails and water would look cool too! I’ve explored this area countless times and am always blown awa...y by the raw beauty of the area. Lake Louise is world famous for its turquoise lakes, the Victoria Glacier, soaring mountain backdrop, palatial hotel, and incredible hiking and skiing. EN WMP 003 | Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park During the shoulder season, between summer and winter activities, I started exploring parks close to the city of Calgary. Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park is located NW of the city heading towards Cochrane on the 1A. I enjoyed the day out there exploring and taking photos, some of them are in this post! Since I had very little time this week, I chose to make a large-scale map with data from the Alberta Government instead of a small-scale overview map. Using the EN color scheme as a base, I played around with lots of ways to create a simplistic color hierarchy to make the trails pop. Trail maps are my favorite maps to make and I hope to do more in the coming months!

EN WMP 002 - Mackenzie River Basin Having been raised on the banks of the Peace River, I have always been fascinated by the Mackenzie River Basin. It is the 10th largest river basin in the world, drains an area of 1.8 million km (a fifth of Canada’s land), has an average annual discharge of 9,910 m3/s, and extends over 4,241 km from its most distant source to its delta on the Beaufort Sea. Rivers have always held a special place in my heart and that is why I want to do my pa...rt in telling their story. I specialize in bringing large amounts of technical data together and turn it into a map that is easily read. I like to call it marketing mapping. I chose to make a map highlighting the major rivers & lakes of the basin in a simple, clean style. The base map was designed in the Vector Tile Style Editor using colors from the EN Creative color scheme. I spend most of my time creating maps for clients, so much so that I rarely take the time to experiment on my own and dive deeper into my passion. I have been making maps since I was 6 and would love to be known as an international cartographer someday. Normally I embark on journeys in the outdoors with a pair of skis, boots, bikes, or kayaks, but this time, it's a creative journey. With that in mind, I am setting out to create a map, ever week of 2021 to enhance my skills an...d challenge myself. This first map is WMP001 - Jasper National Park and is meant to showcase the park at sunrise. The map is inspired by John Nelson 's Yellowstone National Park map.
