What is health? What is fit? Working in the fitness industry for many years has definitely been an eye opening experience. I have seen first hand how damaging mainstream fitness and diet culture has become. Over the years I have seen many people come into my studio with major metabolic damage and distorted eating due to dieting in their pursuit to perfection and happiness. (Sadly often under other professionals guidance)The problem is not the pursuit to health and wellnes...s, it’s that it seems to always be wrapped up in a bow saying you will be happy when.... I’m all for taking positive steps to get back in touch with what your body, mind and soul need to thrive, but why on earth does that always have to be focused just on what we look like? I can tell you from experience it doesn’t matter how much weight you lose, how many before or after pictures you have, if the inside work isn’t done then there will still always be that missing key element that a person is left searching for. Yes when weight is dropped, you feel good, people give you extra attention, you’re now a role model for others, this also comes with pressure to maintain, then what? What about when you get injured or something happens and you put on a few extra pounds or you just start to naturally age, are you no longer worthy now because so much or your focus and energy was put into the outer shell? I’m finally at a place in my life and business where I am realizing how incredibly powerful and capable we all are, and that encompasses so much more than just what we look like. In my studio my clients learn how to actually listen to their bodies again, love themselves at all stages through their journey as they step into their power, while doing movements that bring them joy, it’s all about stepping away from cookie cutter one fit all programs. Hell, if you hate burpees don’t do them!! There are thousands of others things you can do to move your body and feel incredible, it’s time we start honouring our bodies, and loving ourselves on all levels, body, mind and soul. See more

Since the first aerial swing I purchased was such a hit, my incredible husband installed a second one in the studio this weekend.

Just made up one of my all time favourite dinners. Chicken enchiladas, these are hearty, filling, and so flavourful when topped with Earth Island Vegenaise chipotle (I put that stuff on so much food to spice it up) I have always really enjoyed food but being great in the kitchen has not always been my strong suit, that is one area I’m trying to put more energy into, searching new recipes and getting a little more creative. The intent is to explore ways that I can start to have fun in the kitchen again and not feel overwhelmed.

I believe being an advocate for our health and wellbeing is fundamental. Over the past few weeks I have been reading books, articles and blogs, had discussions with family, friends and my doctor, and have come to realize like so many other aspects of life when it comes to our wellbeing knowledge is power; and we are in the drivers seats. Over the last few years I have been on a journey of discovering and healing the body, mind and soul. Each time a new piece is brought to the... surface more strings to the endless web start to mesh together with greater understanding. This journey has transitioned me from a place of disconnect back to connection through a variety of stages, each time learning deeper perspectives of myself and the world around me. I now understand I am part of a lost generation of girls that fell through the cracks of misdiagnoses after misdiagnosis. For years I was made to feel like I was just overly sensitive, agitative, had difficulty concentrating, easily overwhelmed, clumsy, anxious, disorganized, depressed, exhausted, moody, and like all this was in my head, and in the end my body started breaking down on me, leaving me with multiple autoimmune diseases. Recently I discovered I fall within the autism spectrum and also have sensory processing disorder, this knew discovery was shocking at first, and as I learned more this knowledge was so freeing for me. Together my Dr and I decided we weren’t going to go through with all the testing to get an official diagnosis. I didn’t feel it was necessary, I already have enough diagnoses on my medical record I really didn’t feel I needed another label added onto that. For me it’s the understanding of self and others, now that I know that my brain and body function and respond in a non neurotypical fashion I am able to 1) Let go of all the expectations, judgements and stories I have places upon myself trying to keep up with what I thought of as societies norms. 2) I am able to freely step into my authentic, creative, eccentric self with total acceptance and understanding. Watch out world you haven’t seen nothing yet! . 3) I can now dive deeper into my ability to heal because I am no longer trying to fix pieces of myself, I now know I’m not broken, it’s time I start celebrating what makes me different and taking care of my needs. I’m learning what tools I need to regulate and ground me, when I need to say no, and how I want my life and environment to look like and feel. I strongly believe we have to be our own advocates for our health, healing and wellbeing. There is no one box fits all, there is no normal, there is no right or wrong way, it's so unique for everyone, for me interlinking Western and Eastern medicine is where the magic seems happens. We are in the drivers seat of our well-being, and the first step is understating we hold the power! See more
