Blood donation policies governing men who have sex with men have shifted significantly over time in Canadafrom an initial lifetime ban in the wake of the AIDS crisis to successive phases of time-based deferment requiring periods of sexual abstinence (5-years to 1-year to 3-months). We interviewed HIV-negative gay, bisexual, queer, and other sexual minority men (GBM) in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal to understand their willingness to donate blood if eligible. This study aimed to quantify serosorting among men who have sex with men (MSM) by comparing observed seroconcordance in sexual partnerships to what would have been observed by chance if zero individuals serosort (preferentially selected partners of the same perceived HIV status). The study also aimed to compare if HIV-negative MSM differed by pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use, and to quantify PrEP-matching in sexual partnerships formed between two HIV-negative individuals. PANEL - PrEP: Who’s Not Getting It? As part of Community-Based Research Centre's Virtual Summit 2020 | Sommet virtuel 2020 It’s been nearly 5 years since Health Canada approved PrEP, yet the highly effective HIV prevention tool remains underutilized or out-of-reach for far too many. Despite PrEP becoming increasingly accessible and well-known, critical gaps remain in reaching many gay, bi, trans, Two-Spirit, and queer men (GBT2Q), including GBT2Q who are Black, Indigenous,... or who use drugs. Who has been left behind in our PrEP education and advocacy, and what can be done to address these disparities? This panel will highlight findings from PrEP research studies and frontline service provider perspectives to identify key groups who may need greater support to access PrEP. The panel will also provide an open discussion on what service providers, community organizations, and other stakeholders can do to improve equitable access to PrEP for everyone in Canada. We are seeking a research assistant for the Engage-COVID19 study, a nested sub-study of the Engage Cohort Study. The Engage-COVID19 study will document COVID-19... infection, immunity, and related determinants in gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBM). It will also investigate how information about the measures to stop or slow the spread of COVID-19 are received, understood, and being taken up by this population.
