Cruise passengers are at increased risk of person-to-person spread of infectious diseases, including COVID-19, and outbreaks of COVID-19 have be...en reported on cruise ships. Passengers who decide to go on a cruise should get tested 3-5 days after your trip AND stay home for 7 days after travel. Even if you test negative, stay home for the full 7 days. Originally one presentation was planned to cover this brief period of history (1857-9) but there was so much information and so many factors that had to be considered that the one presentation quickly became two. In fact, many more could be constructed as the history is so rich. This short period of history is document...ed by dozens of first-hand accounts in the form of books, diaries, letters and manuscripts. There are also many histories written, websites, and museum artifacts with descriptions. The research has taken me into correspondence with some of the authors and curators. In one case my research found errors in museum descriptions (soon to be corrected), website entries and wikipedia entries (now corrected). While the presentations are finished my reading has not. It is so fascinating. Currently I am reading about Maj. Hodson of Hodson’s horse. Who’s Hodson you ask? Well, beyond saying that he was an Achilles-like figure of the mutiny you would have to come to one of the presentations. See you on the ship.
