Ennisclare Farm 10.11.2020

Barn renovations complete (after months of work.) Walls parged and painted, windows caulked and painted and loose boards nailed secure. During painting noticed the initials "AA" scratched in one of the foundation stones. The original Homesteaders were Anderson's so chances are sometime circa 1850 A. Anderson scratched his initials into his newly built barn. I think he'd be pleased seeing it looking the way it does almost 170 years later. Can't imagine the incredible hard work those first pioneers put into carving out a living. In the early 1900's this was apparently one of the few local farms that had a horse, which the neighbours would borrow seasonally to take their cattle down to summer pasture (in the Hilton Falls area.)

One of the rare, beautiful winter days, a group heads out for a hack in the snow giving visiting guest "Anka" (from Germany) an opportunity to ride in the snow.

And then there were two. Sadly this winter we lost our beloved barn cat "Smokey," but all the more treats and attention for the remaining two. Here Tyronne (the black cat) looks like a Maude Lewis subject while they perch on the barn door.
